I read this story as a light detective story, for entertainment. It does hold your interest quite well. The story is plausible. Though the main plot of the story is far fetched. I relize that times were tough in upstate Vermont in 1941, but I don't think that there would have been as many locals willing to work as German couriers as the author describes.

Also how the murder of the Quebec government minister in the novel is known to be connected to the St. Albans ring is never explained. The author does have a good knack for describing the quirks of his characters.

Looking for other novels by Chaput on Amazon I was amazed to see that he did not make his central character into a series. The Naval Intelligence Agency officer Frank Kemper is a very interesting guy!
