Patients bring many bits and pieces to their doctors' visits. Health issues. Things they've noticed. Worries about specific symptoms. Concerns that need reassurance. About the Author
Eric Anderson practiced medicine in Texas, New Hampshire and Southern California. A Scottish medical school graduate, he was intrigued to find his American patients had two things in common: a want to be recognized as individuals and fascinating life narratives that needed to be heard. A wonderful book written by an author who clearly understands human frailty, both mental and physical, and the fundamental difference a caring physician can make in the lives of those he touches. I was so impressed at the simple eloquence of the stories. Each one is affecting without any artifice and each character is hard to part with as the book progresses. A highly recommended and positive exploration of the human condition.

I didn't realize this was about a doctor in the 1960's until I read the book. Those were the times when doctors made house calls to patients' houses to visit the sick in their homes. They carried black doctor bags with their basic equipment in it.
There are variety of separate stories on all his house calls and the relationships he has with his patients. The stories were interesting. It's like reading, "Chicken Soup for the Soul". Makes you realize that back then, doctors took their time to know their patients and established relationships unlike now days. Perfect for people who are in the medical field and are not as well. I am not in the medical field at all but I enjoyed the stories very much.
