Book Description

April 1, 1996
The story of Erasmus, the unsung hero behind the translation work of Tyndale and Luther. Erasmus was a scholar of New Testament Greek. Like Vernons other books, this one is about a young apprentice - in this case, his name is Gerhard. He winds up in Basel, Switzerland, living in the same house with Erasmus the scholar. There he comes to understand the popular saying that Erasmus laid the egg that Luther hatched!

About the Author

Louise A. Vernon was born in Coquille, Oregon. Her grandparents crossed the plains in covered wagons as young children. She earned her BA degree from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon and studied music at Cincinnati Conservatory. She took advanced studies in music in Los Angeles, after which she turned to Christian journalism. Following three years of special study in creative writing, she began her successful series of religious-heritage stories for young adults. She teaches creative writing in the San Jose public school district. Mrs. Vernon re-creates for children the stories of Reformation times and acquaints them with great figures in church history. She has traveled throughout England and Germany researching firsthand the settings for her stories. In each book she places a child on the scene with the historical character and involves him in an exciting plot. The National Association of Christian Schools, representing more than 8,000 Christian educators honored Mrs. Vernon's book, Ink on His Fingers, as one of the two best children's books with a Christian message released in 1972.
