The man who loved clowns (review) : By Kayla Parks,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Paperback)
Delrita moved to Tangle Nook from a small town. She lived with her mom,dad and uncle Punky. Punky has a disease called Down's syndrome and just turned thirty-five, and it's very unlikely for someone with Down's syndrome to live past forty. Delrita meets Avanelle Shackleford, and her brother Tree. Delrita, and her family pack up and go to Silver Dollar City. While they are there Punky "trades" a clown for clown. That led them to meeting Whittlen Walt. Walt came in handy later when Delrita's parents get in an accident and Walt is there for Delrita, and Punky.
In my opinion this book is an excellent book. It is most definitely highly recommended in my mind.

Sibling Support Project,
By Marsha. Melkonian (Warrenton, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Hardcover)
This book reminded me that siblings have the longest relationship with a person with any disability and need support - the parents lives overlap with their children to a certain extent, but a sibling's life overlaps for the whole of their lives. The sibling is just as affected as the person with a disability and their lives are changed too. The Sibling Support Project of the ARC is a great resource for kids who ahve a sibling with a disability ...

Very Moving,
By
This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Paperback)
This book was very moving. It deals with a girl whose parents are killed in a car accident. She must come to grips with what will happen to her uncle Punky who has Down's Syndrome now that her parents are not there to take care of him. The author portrays Punky in a very realistic way, but is also careful to use language that a young reader can understand. The reader is able to identify with both Punky and his niece. One word of caution: before letting your kids read this book you may want to discuss the concept of death since it appears several times in the book. It is also a bit of a tear-jerker, but it is also a beautiful story that needs to be told.

Best Novel ever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Hardcover)
This book was read to me by my sixth grade teacher. By the end, no one had a dry face but everyone really enjoyed it. I would reccommend it to anyone, young or experienced, because it has great incite into the prejudices people have about challenged people. I have read a lot of books since (I am now in grade 10) but this story has had an impact on my life. I consider it the best novel I have ever read.

Clowns,

This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Paperback)
The Man Who Loved Clowns is about a girl named Delrita Jenson and her Uncle Punky. Punky has down syndrome so Delrita dosen't have many friends because she doesn't want people to make fun of his disability. It is a heart warming story and you they grow on you as if you were really friends with them. I really like June Rae Wood. She is a really good author and i love how her book are so interesting. I really like the story. It makes me feel bad that some people would actually make fun of other people because of a disease they were born with. I have read her other books and they are just as good as this one. I really like this book. Its is one of my very favorite books I have read it a lot of times. It is a really good book you should think about reading it. The only thing I would change is I wouldn't have had both of her parents die. I think it was to dramatic. It is a good book for anyone who likes a sad story.

The Man Who Loved Clowns-a review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Hardcover)
I think that The Man Who Loved Clowns by June Rae Wood was a great book. There was a girl named Delrita who was embrassed to go anywhere and she only had one friend. The reason was her uncle, Punkie, had downsyndrome and he lived with her. Her uncle loved clowns. The two kids who lived next door to her were scared and made fun of Punkie at first because he looked and acted different from everyone else. Then the little boy started playing with him. Delrita spent a lot of time carving wood into animals. Punkie would spend most of his time sitting on the floor in front of the TV. His birthday was coming up and since he liked clowns a lot, Delrita decided she would carve him a clown. When his birthday came she gave him the clown and he loved it. One day her mom and dad decided they wanted to go to an auction. There was a fair close to where the auction was, so her parents dropped Delrita and Punkie off. They said they would come pick them up after the auction finished. They waited and waited but her parents never came. They had gone in this one shop earlier and Punkie tried taking something so they were talking to the man who owned the shop and they became friends with him. The fair was about to close for the night and Delrita's parents still weren't there. I don't want to give away the book so I won't say anything else about it. You will just have to read it to find out why her parents didn't come and what happens to them through out the rest of the book. I hope you read this great book.

A Heartwarming Story of Strength,
This review is from: The Man Who Loved Clowns (Paperback)
The Man Who Loved Clowns is one of my favorite books by June Rae Wood. The author actually came to my school when I was in 4th Grade. She signed my copy of the book. I was so excited that day. This book is just amazing. Delrita is so brave throughout all her struggles. She has to endure people making fun of Punky, her decision to be friends with Avanelle, and her parent's death, and ultimately Punky's death. What a great wholesome story! So realistic. Nice setting!
