5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Wow...After seeing these guys live I had to get their album. They bring their style of "Hill Country Blues" to the studio as well as they do it on stage. I only wish I could have been on R.L. Burnside's front porch when these guys were just messin' 'round! Somewhere up in Heaven He is listening and smiling...well, well, well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cedric Burnside Lightnin' Malcom - Average Blues Album
This Mississippi duo features Burnside on drums / vocals and Malcolm on guitar and vocals. Burnside is the son of blues legend R.L. Burnside. The album is pure Mississippi hill blues. I like this album, but I find it a little bit frustrating that all of the songs are in the 3 to 4 minute range and these guys never really flesh anything out. I have the feeling that...

Cedric and Malcolm are two of the best Blues artists at work today. Anyone that loves this music needs this CD! Mix this one in with the Allstars and you have great party material...

4.0 out of 5 stars Hill Country Blues Done Just Right!, October 15, 2011

This CD takes me right back to The Delta. It's true Mississippi hill country, back-porch, juke joint music. The album captures Cedric and Malcolm's sound completely, because this is the only way they play. These are NOT over-produced, layered compositions - it's raw and it's real. Drummer Cedric may be better known, but Lightnin' Malcolm's guitar work is the duo's secret weapon, and his singing doesn't disappoint in the slightest. If you can't afford a trip to Mississippi, you can buy this CD and get a good taste of what you're missing.

I like this album, but I find it a little bit frustrating that all of the songs are in the 3 to 4 minute range and these guys never really flesh anything out. I have the feeling that both of these guys could really jam if they wanted to, but the solos are kept short and simple here. The songwriting is pretty typical of this style. There is nothing here that is what I would call innovative, but everything is well written and performed. Overall this is a good solid blues album, nothing that will blow you away, but it does provide a pleasant listen.
