I ordered this because I own all the other seasons and generally enjoy watching Man vs. Wild shows. This season isn't anything spectacular, like the exciting and great season 4. Season 6 is basically more of the same, Bear going through the motions and presenting exciting scenarios and situations. What I found sorta funny is that there were 3 different episodes where Bear took his sock off to use in some way. Three different times! And it's not even something new. I've seen him do the ol' sock trick in every other season. Who cares? The episode with Jake Gyllenhaal is pretty good. The episodes consist of lots of erratic cutting and zooming to keep the viewer "enguaged" or to make things more exciting. No new survial techniques are presented. None of the destinations are particularly special or exciting. If you're a fan of Man vs. Wild, it's not a great season, but not terrible either. Not as boring as Season 5. If you're newly interested in Man vs. Wild, I would suggest starting with Season 4. Here's a ranking of seasons 1-6, starting best to not so good:
1.Season 4. Most exciting and "fresh."
2.Season 2.
3.Season 1.
4.Season 3.
5.Season 6.
6.Season 5.

I found myself thinking a half hour of watching each episode was plenty, where as the earlier seasons I enjoyed the entire hour. Pretty much only worth purchasing to finish off your Man vs. Wild collection.

My 17 year daughter and I love his shows. It makes us want to get off the couch and do some local hikes, nothing compared to his adventures. It's funny to me when he eats the local food and she says that is disgusting while he munches on a snake he cooked on a fire.

Forget those sheltered, coddled kitchen-artists from Iron Chef - if you're looking for someone with a true passion for new taste sensations, and the willingness to parachute into a third world jungle to quench it, then look no further than Discovery channel icon Bear Grylls, possibly the most daring culinary mad scientist on TV, certainly the bravest.

Sure, he can pitch a wigwam or scale a crevasse with the best of them, but aficionados know that these skills are but the necessary by-product of a desire to ferret out and consume the freshest Longhorn beetle guts Belize has to offer, the fattest grubs in all of Zaire, or simply the maddest diamondback rattler in West Texas. It's not like they stock this kind of stuff down at the local supermarket, do they? No - Bear knows that if you want to get your mitts on a decent scorpion or two you'd better know more than a little about surviving in the wild. Good thing he does.
In addition to his exceptional sourcing abilities, Bear also happens to have an, interesting, dare I say innovative approach to traditional cooking methodology. When was the last time Wolfgang Puck utilized a geothermal pool to boil a crayfish, for example? Has re-purposing a discarded coke can into a miniature skillet ever occurred to Jamie Oliver? Tell you what: let's drop Anthony Bourdain into the wilds of
Vietnam and see how witty and charming he is then. Better yet - let's see if the catfish he prepares at the end of the day is "Grylled" to
perfection (like Bear's would undoubtedly be). If he even manages to catch one, that is.

Of course, there are times when Bear falls back on simple gross-out humour and clowning which I suspect is done explicitly with the TV audience in mind.

This fella makes Steve Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter; RIP) look like a Boy Scout! My 12 year old and his cousins love watching this. Funny thing; besides the expected fascination with what he'll eat next; they actually learn something about the places in the show.
