Great Performance, Poor Editing,
By Pocho (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mana - Acceso Total (DVD)
This would have been 5 Stars. Mana gives a great live show!!
But...the mind-numbing editing knocks off a star. Not only does the camera changes angle every 2 seconds, but you see a camera shot from a totally different concert every 2 seconds. It will make your head spin. For example, in less than 10 seconds you will see in one shot Fher has red pants on with a leather jacket, the next shot he has dark pants with a white Bob Marley T-shirt on, then he's holding a microphone, now he's playing a guitar. They're playing in a soccer stadium, 2 seconds later you see they're playing indoors, now they're playing in a plaza, etc. It's dizzying. If they would have just filmed it all in one concert, or just stay in the same venue for the entire song, then switch venues after each song, then the realism of actually being there would have been much stronger.

An Excellent DVD,
By
This review is from: Mana - Acceso Total (DVD)
This DVD is excellent!
It has a couple of drawbacks like not displaying in Wide Screen format and not being able to select a song from the chapter list, but there's so much more on it than the other DVD, that I would buy this one hands down over the MTV DVD. I have both and I definitely like this one better. (Not being able to select a song from the chapter list is due to the fact that all songs are in one chapter. The other 5 or so chapters are full of other information about the group.) The MTV DVD seems so sanitized, like they are playing for a group of senior citizens and don't want to get anyone's heart rate going. This one is not like that at all. Really, this DVD is cool. The video switches around a bit, showing clips of the same concert given in a dozen different cities. It's really great to check out how they change the setup each time they give a concert, but still pull the songs off flawlessly. This DVD is much longer than I had expected and has most of Mana's best hits. The DVD from MTV seemed like it only showcased their mellower songs. Captions in English, Portuguese, and Spanish are provided. If you are a native English speaker, that feature alone makes it worth buying. Honestly, there's so much material on this DVD I haven't even had a chance to look at it all. It's really an awesome DVD. I recommend that if you are a dedicated Mana fan, like me, go buy this DVD first. The song "Mi Religion" was performed with the famous Italian singer, Zucchero. What an awesome performance! Go buy the DVD. I doubt you will be sorry. Buy it! Mark

Maná has been popular for many years and their musical range is extensive - everything from gentle ballads to fiery latin rhythms. The songs that are performed on this DVD are excerpts taken from various concerts around the world. As can usually be expected when live concerts are recorded, the sound quality is usually inferior to the studio-produced CD. Although the instrumentals sometimes suffer as a result, the lead singer's voice manages to shine through. Other than the songs themselves, there is additional interview footage and information about the band (their background, etc.) It is in these sections where the editing is sloppy and the content somewhat uninteresting. However, I feel the main reason that anyone would want to buy this DVD is to see Maná perform the music they have come to love. In this respect, the DVD is a worthwhile purchase. I, myself, have never seen the band perform but love their music. This DVD satisfied my curiosity.

ESTE DISCO DE MANA QUE ES UNA RECOPILACION DE SUS GIRAS MUNDIALES ES BUENO, AUNQUE CONSIDERO QUE DEBERIAN DE HABER INCLUIDO ALGUNAS CIUDADES MAS DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS COMO CHICAGO, NUEVA YORK ETC.. HE TENIDO LA OPORTUNIDAD DE ESTAR EN ESAS CIUDADES EN SUS CONCIERTOS Y EL AMBIENTE QUE SE FORMA ES FORMIDABLE.
EN CUANTO A LA SELECCION DE SUS CANCIONES; PIENSO QUE HUBO OTROS TEMAS MUY BUENOS QUE ME HUBIERA GUSTADO VER EN CONCIERTO COMO TE LLORE UN RIO, EL RELOJ CUCU, COMO DUELES EN LOS LABIOS ETC ETC ETC. EL PERO QUE PONGO ES ,QUE HAY MAS ENTREVISTAS QUE MUSICA,SIENTO QUE TODOS LOS QUE SOMOS FANATICOS NOS HUBIRA GUSTADO MAS VER MAS MUSICA EN CONCIERTO QUE ENTREVISTAS. PERO NO EXCLUYE DE CONSIDERAR UN BUEN DVD PARA COLECCION,

Fulfillment of my Long Anticipation,
This review is from: Mana - Acceso Total (DVD)
Just as I had dreamed and wished and hoped for so long ever since I
saw Maná live in concert in El Campello, Spain, in May 2003, Maná has released a new DVD, called "Acceso Total - Giro Mundial" (Total Access - World Tour for those of you who don't habla español). I own the DVD of Maná's MTV Unplugged concert. Other than that, they don't appear to have any other decent DVDs available. I think there may be a rare DVD of their crappy videos from the 80s. Their songs were great, mind you, but their music videos from that period were really bad. ANYWAY, this is the item I have dreamed of ever since I attended the concert. Now the rest of you can have a small taste of what it's like to see Maná live. And I can relive the moment over and over again (not exactly, as I doubt they filmed the particular concert I attended, since it took place in a field of dirt in a small town). Looking forward to a new album from them in the new year, too...

Fun DVD,

This review is from: Mana - Acceso Total (DVD)
If the Beatles had stayed together, I believe that they would sound like Mana does today. Mana uses simple chord patterns, yet the melodies and lyrics to the songs are so sophisticated, that Mana is years ahead of most other bands.
As for Acceso Total, I really like it. It does not have the clarity of sound or photography that the MTV Unplugged DVD has, but Acceso Total is really fun, and captures the enthusiasm of audiences around the world. The concert footage is great, and this DVD also has subtitles, so that people that are not fluent in Spanish, can enjoy the meanings of the lyrics. There are also special features that give a glimpse into the band as people, and extensive interviews with Fehr and Alex. Maybe this is just for the camera, but my impression is that Mana is very down to earth, and very nice people. I believe that any fan of rock and roll would like this DVD!

Worth buying? Yes Will you be 100% satisfied? No,

Mana has produced some of the best music in the last 15 years. Their melodies are great, their lyrics excellent and their live performances awesome! This is a band that can put on a great show live, but they should fire who ever ruined it all with this "live" DVD. Let's see, first of all its too dark. Any good producer will tell you that lighting is very important. The reason it is too dark is because they did not assign a specific night to shoot this concert. It was recorded during their last tour that lasted over two years all together. That alone ruins it all. Recording a live DVD is something special. The cameras have to capture the magic not only of the band and fans but of the night. Its hard to see the magic when every two seconds the camera switches angle, date and venue. The sound SUCKS! Who ever produced this DVD should be taken to court for false advertisement. None on of the songs are recorded on Dolby Digital 5.1 or 3/2. Your receiver will pick up a DD5.1 signal but, your center speaker is muted throughout the performances. It only goes on during interviews and between songs to add a special effect. What a wasted opportunity. I will recommend this DVD because the band is so good they compensate with great music. If you are into video and audio excellence, you will know what I am talking about.

Great DVD with a different editing style...,
This review is from: Mana - Acceso Total (DVD)
This DVD is great. It is a great companion to their previous MTV Unplugged DVD. I do agree with some of the reviews that mention the different shots that were edited....but personally it doesn't bother me, I just see it as a different way to do live DVDs. The band just tried to portray the different audiences they encountered throughout their Revolucion de Amor World Tour. If your a Maná fan, don't think twice about it and just get it.

By
This review is from: Mana - Acceso Total (DVD)
