Very Helpful and On Target!,

This review is from: How to Manage Problem Employees: A Step-by-Step Guide for Turning Difficult Employees into High Performers (Paperback)
This book is a must-read for all new and veteran managers! It gives you so much practical advice and hits the nail on the head when it comes to providing just the right words to say to a problem employee. But beyond that, his advice actually works! It's one thing to hear a tip or technique, but when you are then motivated to try these techniques and they work, that's when you know your investment was worth the time and effort. This book offers straightforward advice on the most difficult subject in management and one for which most of us are not fully prepared - supervising people!"

This review is from: How to Manage Problem Employees: A Step-by-Step Guide for Turning Difficult Employees into High Performers (Paperback)
After attending Glenn's seminar on this subject, I told my co-worker "this guy should write a book". It's about time! This is a "must-read, get-your-own-copy because I am keeping mine" book that every manager should have in his or her toolbox. Glenn is frank, honest, and above all, REAL. No "guru mumbo-jumbo" in this book, just real situations and real solutions. After reading it I remembered that I am a manager to my employees- not their friend, not their parent, and certainly not their babysitter. Thanks, Glenn!

Harsh Reality,
This review is from: How to Manage Problem Employees: A Step-by-Step Guide for Turning Difficult Employees into High Performers (Paperback)
Glenn Shepard is the Professor of Harsh Reality. He's provocative and tells it like it is in a humorous but chillingly serious fashion that cuts to the core of the issue in a way that no other management guru does. His style is not for everyone, especially those who think more positive thinking and a pat on the back are the solution to everything. But if you've been in the trenches of management and have experienced how miserable problem employees can make your life, this book will be your salvation.

An Indispensable Resource for Every People Manager,

I thought I've taken enough Management courses in MBA school that would prepare me for managing problem employees. I found out I was wrong when I realized that I had some of the symptoms of BMS -- Battered Manager Syndrome, as explained in Glenn's book.
I appreciate Glenn's book because it starts out by asking People Managers if the job is right for them. I found it helpful that the book gives prescriptive advice on the kind of manager one ought to be. What I also found helpful was his explanation of "Why People Do the Things They Do" in Chapter 7, and his recommended actions that a manager could take to deal with types of employees that he has effectively profiled from his experience in conducting management seminars. I thought the book was already worth its weight in gold after reading Chapter 7, but Glenn exceeded my expectations further when he clinched the book with a chapter on handling daily challenges brought upon by problem employees. After reading this book, I immediately applied most, if not all, of Glenn's prescriptive advice, and I'm happy to report that I no longer have the symptoms of BMS.

The basic treatise on strict management,
This review is from: How to Manage Problem Employees: A Step-by-Step Guide for Turning Difficult Employees into High Performers (Paperback)
We recommend this book to everyone who has employees: managers, supervisors or small business owners - especially if you are new to your position, are a first time manager or supervisor, have just hired your first employee or are about to do so. If the employees are running the ship at your company, it's time to take back control. Author Glenn Shepard tells you exactly how to do so in easy-to-implement logical steps. With this guide, even the most wishy-washy manager can become a model of strength, leadership and authority.

Should be A-1 on every manager's reading list!,

We(University of South Alabama)have hosted professional development workshops and seminars of all kinds over the years, even featuring the likes of Tom Peters, Ken Blanchard and Steven Covey. But I can honestly say that Glenn Shepard knows the most practical ways to help managers change unacceptable behaviors in their employees ...better than anyone I've ever met. He has received rave reviews for over 10 years from managers in large and small organizations. I teach business management to undergrad students and coordinate professional development for managers to help them improve employees'performance, so I see both sides of the workforce. From both sides....One thing is clear: Every manager should read this book!"

Tough (and practical) Answers,

This book is definitely not for the thin skinned. But if you're sick and tired of trying to get a good day's work out of people with an entitlement mentality who think the world owes them something, Glen Shepherd has unapologetically provided the answers you're looking for.

WOW! What an easy read. Glenn Shepard has created a wonderful step-by-step guide that I consider a MUST READ for every small-business owner and manager or supervisor. As a national workshop leader Glenn combines his own experience as a business owner with the experiences and research from more than 100,000 managers from Forture 500 companies and small businesses alike. The author writes in a very straight forward manner -- and I like how he does not pull punches with addressing difficult employee behavior issues. One thing I like the most is you can pick this book up and begin at any chapter. Practical and informative -- I will require all my managers to read.
