5.0 out of 5 stars A very Good book from a Biblical viewpoint.
I'm surprised this book is not ranked higher. Before I read this I knew Larry Burkett from all of the times he has been talked about here on the Christian radio station in the Los Angeles and Orange County area since the 90's. This book is made for a christian bible study, but didn't help for personal use. Sure it has a great amount of questions to consider and bible verses to guide you in your answers, but no where does it give you ADVICE or steps on how to save or manage your money. It tells you ways to think about doing it, but nothing concrete to follow. I was very disappointed in this...

Before I read this I knew Larry Burkett from all of the times he has been talked about here on the Christian radio station in the Los Angeles and Orange County area since the 90's. As far as I know Larry Burkett is the foremost leader when it comes to Christian finance which little is preached or taught about especially given how much it's spoken about in the Bible especially the NT. This is a good book to have in everyone's library and is just as foundational and core an area such as devotions, prayer and so on.

This review is from: How To Manage Your Money (Paperback)
How To Manage Your Money does an excellent job presenting Biblical principles for asset management, not just money. It is designed for group study, such as a Sunday school class, but is also valuable for individual study and reference.

I really needed to know if the methods my husband and I were using to get out of debt were correct. They but we needed a little refinement. We received that through this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sooo helpful- solid, timeless, biblical truth!, December 10, 2011
This review is from: How To Manage Your Money (Paperback)
I came back to write this review because I recently reviewed Dave Ramsey's audio CDs, and found myself constantly saying how much better I liked Larry Burkett's work. I have several of his books, and love them all. In my humble opinion, a lot more helpful than Dave Ramsey, who is good in his own way. Dave spends a lot of time entertaining you, though, and giving clever stories and other illustrations to his points, where as Larry gets to the point and tells me what I need to know. I don't have a lot of extra time for cute stories when I'm looking for a study or helps text, and I don't need a 12-minute talk to get the idea of "don't put all your eggs in one basket". Also, Dave tends to say things like "Save at least $1,000" -without saying how this could happen, while Larry starts where you are, and helps you see where your money's going, and where you can save it. Is your home over your budget? Are you paying too much for your car/transportation? Is it entertainment that's killing you? How would you know? What's a good amount to put toward housing? How about clothing? Food? Medical? These are the types of percentages Larry starts you out with-everybody has 100% of THEIR income-so you divide it up and see where your expense fits, and what's over "normal." Then YOU decide if it's worth that to you, and where to cut-or if you simply must have more income to survive. But it's only logical-everyone can see-that you can only spend 100% of your income. I also like that Larry starts out with adjusting the perspective on money to be biblical, and on giving-something Dave focuses on in his last lesson. This is a starting point to me. Another contrast is that Dave seems to often (jokingly) be insulting, mocking or harsh, where Larry is very professional and respectful at all times. Very practical and down to earth, absolutely applicable to anyone and very user-friendly. Excellent resource.

I purchased a used copy of "How To Manage Your Money" but the image of the correct edition which was the image advertised and was the onw I was looking to purchase did not match the book I received. I basically got a used book, which I expected, but a previous, very old edition of the book. There were many differences between the edition I wanted and the edition of the book I received. I recommend that they be more specific with what editions they are actually sending you compared to the images showing on their ads.
