The SNMP - the Simple Network Management Protocol - is the standard for open, interoperable network management - defining 2000 items of management information. Written by the authors of the SNMP, this reference aims to go beyond the standards by explaining which of these 2000 items are important and how to make use of them in order to improve the efficiency of real networks. It not only describes the theory, technology, and algorithms used to manage real networks, but focuses on how to integrate SNMP technology and SNMP-based tools into all aspects of network management.

From the Back Cover

The SNMP the Simple Network Management Protocol is the standard for open, interoperable network management defining 2000 items of management information. Written by the authors of the SNMP, this exceptionally practical reference goes beyond the standards by explaining which of those 2000 items are important and how to make use of them in order to improve the efficiency of real networks. Each chapter is divided into three sections: a tutorial on a technology (e.g., wide-area networking), a discussion of the management instrumentation available that is associated with the technology, and real-world application programs which show how problems associated with the technology can be solved by monitoring and controlling the instrumentation. Describes the theory, technology, and algorithms used to manage real networks. Focuses on how to integrate SNMP technology and SNMP-based tools into all aspects of network management interface management, LAN management, WAN management, remote management, host management, and application management. For network managers, administrators, programmers, operators at LAN and WAN levels. This is the most practical book on the market on SNMP.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacks Detail and Lacks Cisco Related Help, March 22, 1999

This review is from: How to Manage Your Network Using SNMP (Paperback)
This book is worth half the cost. It gives too little informantion. The book is of little help with network related SNMP... just an troduction. I found Cisco's own documentation which is also a little thin, to be better if you are using Cisco equipment. A $29 book for $62!

1.0 out of 5 stars I wish there was option of less than one star.... AWFUL!, November 24, 1999

This review is from: How to Manage Your Network Using SNMP (Paperback)
The worst certification book I've ever read! Even the questions at the end, which could have make the book worth purchasing, are bogus and full of mistakes. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY READING THIS BOOK!

The author should be embarrased to have his name on it. Absolute garbage, trash. (I'm so glad there is somewhere to vent about a rip-off like this!)
