5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for managers concerned about malpractice lawsuits, April 7, 1999
This review is from: Managed Care Success: Reducing Risk While Increasing Patient Satisfaction (Hardcover)
The thesis of this book is that managed care is here to stay, and with it comes new challenges - particularly in the area of malpractice litigation prevention. The emphasis on cost reduction is creating the perception that managed care means less care, and there are many people around who are more than willing to capitalize on this perception. The answer, in the authors view is not a good defense, as in defensive medicine, but in a strong offense, as in improved communications skills and better patient education.

This well documented book makes a strong case that there is little correlation between actual malpractice and malpractice lawsuits. Most instances of malpractice go undetected and most malpractice lawsuits are caused by poor communication and misunderstanding. Therefore the book offers sound advice and suggestions for improving patient satisfaction and education.

This book is an excellent read for a manager of any business, not just healthcare businesses, who is concerned about mal-performance litigation and looking for ways to avoid it. Or for a manager who is looking for ways to cost-justify treating customers the way customers want to be treated.
