Book Description

Hfma Healthcare Financial Management Series January 1998
Although managed care affects over 100 million Americans and continues to extend its reach across this country, its successes are often overshadowed by a deterioration of consumer confidence, as evidenced by the literally thousands of legislative and regulatory initiatives aimed at taming managed care. Managed Care on Trial explores the ethical and legal issues that arise from managed care and offers a for the eroding confidence in the system by resorting trust, integrity and accountability. Managed Care on Trial seeks to arm the physician and other healthcare providers with knowledge that will better enable them to bridge the gap between fiscal mandates and clinical stamina, and to negotiate with payors as active partners rather than passive recipients in dealing with the challenges of marketplace demands. It is also oriented as a guide for consumers seeking better ways of addressing and solving the problems pose by the rapid transformation of the healthcare system. Included in the book are reviews of some of the most dramatic legal cases involving managed care.

This book unpacks many of the hidden agendas in managed care and provides useful and practical advice to the reader on how to better understand and navigate the turbulent waters of managed care. This book is written by a well-known health systems advisor and leader, keynote speaker and expert witness with over 20 years experience in the field coupled with a dynamic foreward and introduction by Mark Hiepler often called the "Rainmaker" or "89 million dollar man" because of his record breaking 89.3 million dollar jury verdict against a large managed care. organization and involved in over 150 cases representing patients and physicians in diverse managed care scenarios. 2.0 out of 5 stars Rambling, Poorly written., April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Managed Care on Trial (Hfma Healthcare Financial Management Series) (Hardcover)
It's true that managed care is on trial--literally and figuratively. But this rambling, disjointed, and wholly incoherent book offers little to justify its publication. Do not take my word for it. Go to the library and pick it up. Open it and read ... you will be shocked that it is for sale at any price.
