Editorial Reviews

Review

An excellent book, solid in every way. I used the first edition this year and it was exactly what I needed for this course. No other book holds a candle to byrnes' book. (Charles Williams, U of Toledo)

The organization of each chapter presents a concise way of assisting students in understanding the material and knowing how to apply it in future situations.

This book is an excellent overview of the field of arts management. It is clearly written and comprehensive. The case studies are really useful.

"Appreciate the specificity of the examples." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Text book, September 21, 2000
By A Customer
A good book to get a general survey of issues in the arts management field. As an overview, it necessarily glosses over details in areas such as the history of arts management, economics/accounting, daily operation strategies. Great for presenting theory-great for examples of how other arts organizations have implemented theory. Slightly geared towards performing arts organizations but quite useful to all arts managers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Important basics for all arts managers, October 29, 2001
William Byrnes' book is obviously one of only a few books touching all aspects of arts management today. Readers will learn how arts organizations and arts management evolved, the theories and processes behind strategic planning and decision-making, and how to integrate various management theories with practical applications to this type of organization. Of course, not all of Byrnes' examples lets copy into other cultural markets, but there are a lot of general basics for arts managers and administrators worldwide. We can really advise to buy this publication.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good start, December 13, 2006
This review is from: Management and the Arts, 3rd ed., Third Edition (Paperback)
I used this book in an introductory course to arts management. Though it can be very dry, the book is a useful base. However, if you can find the same information with a little more personality, I would take it.
