Parsons, the owner of a riding school in Britain, provides an extremely thorough treatise on all aspects of the keeping of horses in their teens or older. Beginning with a chapter on general care, the author moves on to an excellent overview of health-care issues. Giving an older horse the correct balance of feeds can go a long way in prolonging life, as can the proper exercise, and both are given excellent coverage in separate chapters. Shorter chapters discuss breeding and euthanasia. The comprehensive second section deals with veterinary care, as horses become increasingly prone to certain diseases and ailments with age.
