Gentle Measures may be an old book, but it should be considered a classic for that reason, rather than dismissed. It is by no means outdated. This is a must-read for any parent, teacher, baby-sitter, or extended family who need to take care of kids not their own. Teacher's education had some info on classroom discipline, but there are a lot more techniques in here. It's a whole philosophy, with examples and ideas on how to implement a disciplinary method without spanking. Even if you believe in a mild "swat", but want to reduce the number of times you have to use that correction, this is a great read!
