About the Author


David C. Mohr, PhD, is Professor of Preventative Medicine at Northwestern University and holds a joint appointment as a researcher at the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Mohr's research has examined two broad areas. First, he has focused on the development and evaluation of interventions for the treatment and prevention of depression and stress. His second area of research has been to examine how psychological and behavioral treatments can affect disease outcomes or markers. In particular, Dr. Mohr has maintained an active research program focusing on the effects of stress on exacerbation and inflammation in multiple sclerosis.

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I found this book to be very helpful. It was very well laid out, and easy to follow. It certainly helped me to put a lot of things into prospective. I have struggled for years with management of stress. I know that stress makes my M.S. worse, yet I could never seem to stop letting the stress control my life. After using this workbook, I changed somethings about my ways of handling life. The book is correct when it states, "Treatments that work". Even though most of it is common sense, sometimes we need things written out for us. We need to see it in black and white, in order to start applying it. I would definitly recommend this book to anyone with M.S. or anyone who struggles with stress and anxiety. I keep this book handy, with all my tabs on the pages, and notes in the margins, to help me when I need it. I have noticed I need it less and less these days.

The book is systematic and covers many of the topics I have discussed with my patients with MS. This is its strength and its flaw. Because it attempts to be so systematic, it is somewhat rigid in its approach and for the many patients with MS who don't have these particular symptoms, it will not hit the target. It is a criticism I have of manualized treatment approaches in general, so if you like these approaches, then you can't go wrong with using this book for your patients with MS or for your own efforts. But if you are looking for a fuller grasp of what people with MS face and the complexity of their symptoms, this is probably not your best bet.
