4.0 out of 5 stars Simple Theater: Stage Mangement and Theater Adiminstration, May 22, 2000
This review is from: Stage Management and Theatre Administration (A Phaidon Theater Manual) (Paperback)
This manual is a no-frills Introduction to Stage Management and Theater Admistration. It can also be used as a reference guide. The check lists are complete and the language is very simple. I like the fact that it deals with what you are expected to do, how you should go about it, without being preachy. You get the job description, that's it. A great manual to build experience off of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-Illustrated and Thorough, August 26, 2008
This review is from: Stage Management and Theatre Administration (A Phaidon Theater Manual) (Paperback)
This manual has been designed to meet the needs of those working in the non-professional theatre--students, teachers, and members of amateur dramatic societies. This valuable tool enables those with little experience in theater to produce plays using professional production standards and eliminate some of the stresses and frustrations that are a result of poor organization and preparation. The author begins by establishing a framework for the stage management team, in which 2-12 members take on specific responsibilities. Tasks for each member of the team are spelled out as they relate to each step of the production process: pre-rehearsal, rehearsal, tech week, the run, and post-production. Specific instructions are given for preparing the rehearsal area and making emergency kits, marking the set, creating and marking the prompt script, conducting business meetings, marketing, loading in and fitting up the final set, rehearsing scene changes, setting light and sound cues, and conducting the costume parade, dress rehearsal, and opening night. The well-conceived photographs, illustrations, charts, schedules, and checklists graphically demonstrate each step in the production process. This is great book to have handy for novices who need some clear-cut guidelines.
