5.0 out of 5 stars Best textbook I've used
Expensive book, but I was impressed with the layout and how easily I was able to learn with it. Study objectives are outlined at the beginning of each chapter, pointed out when they are discussed, and defined at the end so important topics are not missed. Expensive book, but I was impressed with the layout and how easily I was able to learn with it. Study objectives are outlined at the beginning of each chapter, pointed out when they are discussed, and defined at the end so important topics are not missed. Formulas are boxed off for ease in locating and there are plenty of helpful illustrations. Each section of the text ends with a "Before You Go On" box that asks you several questions to ensure you picked up the key points.

There are lots of case studies, self-study questions, and exercises to help you understand the material more thoroughly. Although I'm taking this after work during a short summer semester so I haven't had the opportunity to take advantage of them.

My professor is using the WileyPlus material as well. So all of the questions on the tests are answered online and are directly from the publisher. It appears the powerpoints she lectures off of are supplied as well, so nothing is missed and there are no curveballs on the exams.

Ordering the book was a bit of a challenge in that the price changed 3 or 4 times while I was looking around. But once I selected it, the rest was easy. the book arrived in a timely manner and is in great condition. Thanks for a great experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand!, February 6, 2011

I am an accounting major, so I have been through a lot of accounting books and this one was the easiest to understand. It definitely gave me the foundations I needed for my other accounting classes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Managerial Accounting - ACT 560, December 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Managerial Accounting: Tools for Business Decision Making (Hardcover)
Once again, book was received in excellent condition so I commend the seller. The price was also fair so I have nothing to complain about there and finally the book was delivered in less than a week. Good job from the seller.

I will preface my review of the book itself by saying that I am extremely averse to all things accounting and I did not receive a CD with the book (which may have answers to some of my concerns).

That being said, this book does a better job (than other accounting books I have used) at laying out a systematic study roadmap which allows even the most reticent students as myself, to grasp the major concepts and follow the general thought process of the writers.

This may sound elementary however, I think it is worth mentioning that for managerial accounting novices, the illustrations are priceless. These pictures truly speak a 1000 words and help you grasp what you are reading, Things you should know/review or check your understanding/study objectives/etc... really help drive the points home.

One thing I am not thrilled about is the authors inability to translate managerial accounting and general accounting jargon into plain English for the non-accounting crowd. I find that the definition and/or explanation of certain key concepts could be reduced to fewer simpler words and yet have the same effect. The answers to problems could also use some examples.

The good news is that the mathematical examples that are tied to these concepts are often continuous (meaning, you see the same company being used in a continuous series of examples so you build upon your understanding and can literally visually track backwards if/when you get lost.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied., March 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Managerial Accounting: Tools for Business Decision Making (Hardcover)
I went to the book store in my college and this same book was for $158.99, while on the line to checkout I heard two people talking on buying from online and how it's cheap. I'm now seeing how this highly priced book is used in my class, which is rarely. I made a smart move by buying from amazon. I would have regret my $158.99.

I hope this was useful to u. Thanks.

If you're buying this book for a college class, you really have no choice so this review doesn't matter at all. If you're buying it to teach yourself managerial accounting you could do worse, though considering the price you could probably do much better too.
