textbook used at Harvard,

I used this book to study managerial accounting at Harvard. It is very informative and include productive exercises. I know it is very costly, but don't try to buy the international edition, which has a different version of exercises.

Student Review,
By Plantina "Tina" (Ohio) - See all my reviews

I had to buy this book for my Managerial Accounting Class. The Book taught me well. My suggestion is that they should include more and varied examples for each application. The Problems in the back of the chapter were often difficult and time consuming because the text did not contain these teaching examples. Another suggestion is that All the Exercises in the back of the Chapter should have contained the answers, a self taught person as myself would have benefited from this.

Very informative Accounting textbook,

I really learned a lot from Managerial Accounting. The text is very succinct and helpful, if a little too detailed. There is a wealth of practice problems available, even if you sometimes have to dig through them in order to really get to the helpful review. The book would have benefited from having the answers to the practice problems included, but the review problems at the end of each chapter are super helpful. Finally, the real-life business insights are the best I have ever read in a textbook and really made it enjoyable to read.

Classic book in Managerial Accounting and must have book,

This review is from: Managerial Accounting (Hardcover)
This is one of the recommended textbook for the Managerial Accounting course at GWU. The book is very well written, structured and a must read textbook to understand managerial accounting. I will be keeping this book for the future reference. The author has done a fantastic job in explaining the concepts and by having lot of review problems. The author has also provided a lot of information online
http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0073526703/student_view0/ anyone can understand the concepts by just going through the video library. I would rate this book as one of the top 5 books in my MBA program. Many of the negative feedback received on this book is due to exercises being different in the International Edition or for not having received the book while dealing with the third party sellers.

Excellent overview of management accounting,

This review is from: Managerial Accounting (Hardcover)
I classify this book as an excellent introduction to managerial accounting, ideally for a semester-length course. The information is presented in a format that discusses the basics and allows the student to understand the most current and relevant topics. A must-read for all CMA candidates.

I had to buy this pricey textbook for my Managerial Accounting class. I started working through the chapters and definitely liked this book.
Authors did a good job making the topic easily understandable. I also liked the many real life examples and the friendly voice.

WARNING - International Edition is different!,
This review is from: Managerial Accounting (Hardcover)
I am looking at the International edition right now, and comparing it to the US version - the problems in the back of each chapter are different.
I bought this book being told that it was 'usable' in the US - it is not. There is a large note on the cover that says "This international student edition is not to be sold or purchased in North America and contains content that is different from its North American version."

THIS IS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE 14th EDITION!!!I had the 14th edition E-book for a trial period and received this one and the only differences were that chapters were jumbled to reinvent a textbook about principals that haven't changed. 12e=14e chapter comparisons are 1=1 2=2 3=3 4=4 5=6 6=7 7=8 8=9 9=11 10=10 11=12 12=13 13=14 14=15 15=16 So basically the 14th edition has 1 less chapter. (Wait, so if you pay more for a newer edition you get less? It would appear so.) Aside from the others need for greed to succeed, it was well written and I'm glad I only shelled out a few bucks rather than few their $120 highway-robbery-book-selling-addiction.

This isn't even the book that is advertised in the picture. Instead, it is some sort of a book for a teacher. Didn't help me at all. Horribly slow shipping, too. :(

Great Content, but Usability Issues,

The content of this book is great. This is the best Managerial Accounting book out there. However, the format and features need some improvement:
1) Needs check figures. You can't really use this book for self-teaching because you cannot be certain that you have completed the exercises, problems, or cases correctly. For whatever reason, the authors failed to include answers to even numbered problems or to provide check figures. I was finally able to find check figures for problems and cases on the books website but I not exercises. 2) I bought the book from Amazon NEW, but the book was missing the card with the log-in codes to the book's website, so I wasn't able to access all of the book's support features. VERY DISAPPOINTING. I should have just purchased it from my college bookstore. |
