TOOK EXAM AFTER READING BOOK AND TAKING CD ROM TESTS,
This review is from: Case Managers Study Guide (Paperback)
Atlhough the book seemed detail oriented, not much of what I read in the book was on the test. I do believe that it prepared me well enough to figure out the correct answer when I was unsure. Taking the CD - Rom test a few times prior to the actual exam was probably the most help in preparing me to take the test.

Really prepared me for the CCM exam,
By Bridget Metzger "mbm36" (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Case Managers Study Guide (Paperback)
I took the CCM exam yesterday morning along with 2 coworkers. I don't know if I passed yet, but I felt good walking out of there and this book is the reason why. The three of us used a variety of study guides and we all agreed that this one was the one that best prepared us to take the exam. The book pretty much covered everything on the test, but it didn't overwhelm me with unnecessary detail like some of the other guides. The CD Rom with practice questions is great. I think the questions in the book/CD Rom were more difficult than the ones on the actual test, so if you get comfortable with the questions in the study guide you should be very comfortable on test day. Good luck to anyone out there studying!

Good for practice, maybe not as great for exam,
This review is from: Case Managers Study Guide (Paperback)
I bought this study guide to help me prepare for the CCMC exam after it was recommended to me during an exam prep course. The book is easy to use and the included CD-ROM makes it easy to customize practice tests. However, after almost a month of concentrated study, I took the CCMC exam and was surprised at how little of the material I studied was on it. Because it contains so much information that will help me in my professional practice, I still rate this book 4 stars.

Worked for me!,
This review is from: Case Managers Study Guide (Paperback)
I bought this book several months ago with the intention of taking the test in April; then had to postpone until August due to unplanned foot surgery. Even with all that extra time, I only spent 2 weekends preparing for this exam; by reading the book cover to cover and spending 4 evenings in front of the TV taking tests on my laptop. I don't think you need much more than this book; except maybe experience. And since you can't qualify to sit unless you have work experience, this should be a non-issue. The practice tests on the enclosed CD were the most helpful. I averaged 75% on the practice tests at the beginning, and then began to score in the high 80s. The evening before the exam I took a big test and scored a 90%. The other thing I reviewed was the definitions in the appendix of The Case Manager's Handbook, Third Edition on the morning of the exam; I felt comfortable and confident going in to the test. The 180 questions took me 65 minutes to complete (actual exam) and that included reviewing 20 questions I had skipped. And it's nice to get the results immediately! Seeing the words Passed! and Congratulations! was very rewarding.

I just took, and passed, the CCMC's CCM exam on the first try. This is one of the books I used as prep. On the plus side; the narrative review sections were quite good. However, using the test questions (on computer, anyway) became quite frustrating after a while. The actual exam structures questions differently: a simple choice of about 4 options, no "1,2&4" "all of the above" or "none of the above" to complicate things. The "Feedback" explanations were not always clearly helpful. Occasionally, answer options made little sense, i.e.: option C would be "C" - no reference to the real choices listed above as "1" through "4". I returned the book for gift card credit even before taking the exam.

CCM certification,

This book was excellent in preparing for the CMSA certification for the CCM.
It has lots of questions and asked each question so many times that you had no choice but to learn the material. When I took the exam there were probably 2 questions that were familiar to me; but, do to all of the practice exams that I took and reading the CMSA core curriculum for case management 2 times: I was extremely well prepared. My advice to anyone preparing for the CMSA certification examination for the CCM certification. Read the CMSA core curriculum for case management and practice as many examination questions as you can find over and over again. I passed on the first try. I also used the Anderson CE review course for case management that goes along with this book. It provides the page number for finding the answer to every question. The 2 books that I recommend that you must have are the CMSA core curriculum with the Anderson CE case management review course and this book: A Case Manager's Study Guide and your chances of passing the CCM examination increases dramatically. Good Luck.

I felt this was a comprehensive and generally excellent study guide which gave me confidence to take (and pass) the CCM exam. To my surprise, though, the content of the exam was generally unrelated to anything I studied. I still feel that it's the best prep guide on the market.

Would strongly recommend this book if you are onsidering taking the CCMC test. Loved the lay out, easy to read and remember information. Been a case manager for over 7 years and would not have passed test if I had not had and studied this book.

The book did cover all the exam areas however the book provides in depth review of Medicare and Medicare insurance particulars which is great just to learn about covered benefits. For the purpose of exam review it was far to detailed than needed for the exam. I would expect healthcare providers sitting for the exam already have a solid base of information. The guide was well presented with test questions and rationale in multiple choice scenarios which does indeed prep for exam taking. The CD was most helpful.
