Great Resource for Families, May 25, 2008
This review is from: Managers of Their Chores (Managers, 1) (Spiral-bound)
This book contains an extensive list of chores. Just being able to photo copy the list and check it off has been worth the $25. I am able to see at a glance who does what in our family of eight. I have many organzing books...but this far exceeds them all in regards to what actually has to be done to have a clean house and how to delegate the tasks. I am so thankful for this resource as well as Managers of Their Homes (family scheduling book). Sometimes paying a little extra for someone else to write down the dreaded chores list is worth it to me. Now we have an easy chore system that keeps every member of our family accountable.

I wish I read the low reviews, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Managers of Their Chores (Managers, 1) (Spiral-bound)
I wouldn't go as far to say don't buy this book but I would recommend reading some of the low scoring reviews first. It depends a lot on what you are looking for. If you just want to make chore packs then as stated in another review, head to your local office supply store and grab some clear nametag clips and make your own. In fact, that is exactly what my neighbor did after I gave an overview of the book. The book was a long, slow read.
That said, the positive side of the book are many. The biggest positive is that their system works! Like blueprints to a house, the more planning you put into it and the closer you follow your plan the better it will work for you. It takes much of the think work out of what and when things need to be done. It offers an organized list of chores. Ones that I would have otherwise forgotten. Once the chore packs are in place your kids should able to follow through with very little intervening on your part. Outside of checking their work if that is something you feel needs to be done. Once in place, my house ran much smoother and there was something nice about having everything laid out in front of me to guide us through our day.
If you know that what you are currently doing isn't working for your household and if you are willing to put in the effort then you will benifit from this book. The bottom line is that I am glad I got this book but wouldn't buy it at full price. Go secondhand.

You do NOT need this book!!, September 17, 2007
This review is from: Managers of Their Chores (Managers, 1) (Spiral-bound)
It is way overpriced and obsessive. There are much better - and cheaper - books about chores out there - just search Amazon or elsewhere. THis book is so boring and long I never even finished reading it. It also makes so many steps that it's insane. Just decide what needs to be done and who should do it and DO it!
If you want to make your own chore packs it is SIMPLE and you do not need to spend $25.00 on a "chorepack kit". Just go to an office supply store and get some clip on name badges. Make cards that fit into them - either handwritten or on the computer. On the front write the chore, time of day it's to be done, name of child, etc for each chore. Then put all the "am" chores, lunch chores, pm chores, etc for each child in individual badges. The child wears the pack while doing the chores, moving the cards to the back as their done - it's that simple. We have them for all their chores throughout the day and keep them all clipped onto a bulletin board while they're not in use. This is good for any age, though an older child (teen) may prefer a chore chart or a simple checklist made on Excel.
So save your $25.00 and go buy some name badges, maybe buy a cheap book or two off Amazon on chores or borrow them from the library - or even search for free info on the web - there's lots of stuff out there. Then you will have lots of money left over to take the kids for a treat when they've done a good job on their chores!
