Focus on personal management strengths,

This review is from: Managing Human Behavior in Public and Nonprofit Organizations (Hardcover)
A novel approach to teaching management in the public and non-profit sectors. It follows the adage of "know thyself" in terms of getting work accomplished through others. Contains a number personal evaluations for application to the complex and difficult area of management. Nice addition to bringing to the classroom a practical approach to individual management preferences through personal discovery. Using this in an advanced human resource management class in a master's in public administration program. Less boring than a tradition textbook and useful for a practical approach to management and administration.

The book was brand new and in great condition. I was really happy that it got here in only a few days because I take 8 weeks classes and ordered the book the first week. No complaints and happy with the fast shipping. It was in perfect condition.

I read it and forgot what I read. My typical graduate school experience. However, I remember liking what I read, and saying to myself "Ah ha, that happens at work" etc & etc. Served its purpose.

Considering the material, this book definitely could have been much worse. However, it could have been better. The book covers a wide-sweeping area of human behavior. The material is extremely complex and difficult to cover in a single book. With that being said, the author seemed to try and cover every topic in this book and the result is shallow subject content. Additionally, the content could have been organized a bit better or perhaps in a different way.
Taking a look at the other books in the area, it appears this is probably the best one even with my criticisms of it. That is why I gave it a three, it's a middle of the road book.

The chapters are not of consistent strength or substance. And then too, I came across a number of instances where statements were made without any attempt to support them with specific examples. I cannot offer specifics instances of the aforementioned because I have already discarted the book.
This was required reading for a college course. |
