Practical approach on engineering program management,
This review is from: Managing Engineering Design (Hardcover)
The book focuses on practical management challenges and decision making of engineering design programs. It's most recommended reading for engineering program managers, engineering design leads and senior design engineers responsible for new product development programs of medium level of complexity.
The book is easy to read thanks to it's hands-on approach of walking through two real-world engineering development programs as example cases, giving invaluable practical tips and management checklists at each of the program stages (one of the example cases creates a new innovative office chair, the other case designs a material testing chamber for energy engineering). Relations to other engineering program stakeholders such as marketing, top management and customers are also discussed. The biggest shortcoming of the book is that the specific challenges of integrating electronics and digital control into the designed systems are practically omitted, although such components are ubiquitous in most modern complex system designs. However, the book's lessons otherwise generalize well into all kinds of engineering design programs and thus the book can be recommended as additional reading also for embedded systems design managers. |
