This review is from: Managing Executive Transitions: A Guide for Nonprofits (Paperback)
Managing Executive Transitions: A Three-Phase Guide for Nonprofits. Tim Wolfred is arguably the leading expert on nonprofit executive transitions in the country and he reinforces his standing with his latest gift to nonprofit board members, CEOs, and consultants. This book is pragmatic, easy to follow, and filled with tons of great tools and templates from which you can pick and choose according to your needs. Even though this economy has caused many long-time executive directors to re-think their plans to retire, they're going to have to leave sometime, and like it or not, your nonprofit is going to be facing an executive transition. This book should be on the bookshelf of everyone with leadership or governance accountability.

This book provides hundreds of practical tools, tips and insights about how to make executive transitions successful - not in an ivory tower, but in the real world of nonprofits. Tim Wolfred's work expands upon traditional executive search methodologies and describes a much more comprehensive approach to insuring a well-managed future for your organization, especially utilizing executive succession as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Tim's vast experience and expertise is conveyed in an easy-to-read style, and stands out even for the most seasoned boards and executive transition consultants. If you're involved in executive transitions at all, this book is a very worthwhile read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book on leadership transition that we've been waiting for, August 26, 2009
This review is from: Managing Executive Transitions: A Guide for Nonprofits (Paperback)
At last, Tim Wolfred, the pioneer in the small but growing field of interim nonprofit leadership, provides us with the richness of his unparalleled experience in this critical aspect of nonprofit governance. This book tells you everything you need to know about how a nonprofit can take advantage of the great opportunity that executive turnover presents, not just to survive but to emerge stronger than ever, attract the best possible new leader, and thrive. The book is beautifully written, intelligently organized, eminently practical, down-to-earth, and, honestly, fun to read. For a topic that inspires so much unease in those faced with leadership transition, this is the best medicine on the market!

I worked in the field of nonprofit executive transitions for some time and Tim Wolfred's experience, knowledge, and ability to educate others on the best practices in nonprofit leadership transition is unparalleled. Not only does this book have a ton of invaluable resources and information about executive transition as I would have expected, I think the best part about this book is that it was extremely well written and presented the topics and information in a way that was enjoyable to read. For many clients I have worked with, leadership transition is a daunting task and it is very easy to try to get in and out as quickly as possible without taking full advantage of the opportunity. I think this book really helps shed light on this process and the steps that an organization needs to take in order to really maximize the benefit to agency.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have in the Area of Executive Leadership and Transitions, August 12, 2009
This review is from: Managing Executive Transitions: A Guide for Nonprofits (Paperback)
In the area of Executive Transition and the nonprofit sector, you will not go far without understanding the work of Tim Wolfred. With the nonprofit sector about to see the major impact of baby boomer retirees, this book is a needed resource to help board members and executive leaders make a smooth transition. With a bad transition often having a major impact on an organization far after the fact, using this resource as a guidepost to assist your organization in this important time is critical. If your organization sees a transition on the horizon, you must do two things - first, don't over-react and two get as close to the knowledge of Tim Wolfred as you can, which can be done through reading this important book.
