This review is from: Managing Information Quality: Increasing the Value of Information in Knowledge-intensive Products and Processes (Hardcover)
This book is one of the most comprehensive and cohesive analysis of information quality I have read. Even though it focuses on data used in knowledge-intensive processes, much of what is described applies to many common uses of data in business. The book identifies the various authors and theories about data quality as a backdrop and weaves these various discontinuous theories and opinions into a mosaic that provides the foundations of a framework for information quality.
This is not a silver bullet solution or 7 steps to data quality salvation or anecdotal example book but a complete theoretical and practical explanation of the opportunities, challenges and complexities related to information quality. This is a book for those would consider information quality a mission. The book outlines systemic quality with information being the focus. It examines not only the processing of the information in systems but the human factors affecting information quality. If you read this book and think you know about data quality, read it again. You missed a lot the first time through. If you work with information in a technical or non-technical role, read this book. If you've read other books in data quality and think you "have seen the light", you are in a dark room. If you find yourself carrying this book with you, you have gained knowledge of information quality that few have attained. This book exposes all of the subtleties, idiosyncrasies and complexities with information and with humans who process information. It is revealing, instructive and enlightening. It describes rather prescribes and helps you to understand and internalize your understanding about information and information quality.
