I am just over a month into this devotional, and find it to be an invaluable tool. Each week the topic seems to be divinely scheduled (though I admit I've used the index to jump ahead to a topic of specific interest on occasion) and well suited to my own recovery. After introducing his own personal history and development, including struggles with sex, drugs and alcohol, physical violence and broken marriages, and work in the church, Dawson provides one lesson per week to focus on. His writing is easy to read, yet impactful.

Each lesson includes a story from his own life, from which the reader is encouraged to draw parallels to their own story. Then there are numerous Bible verses featuring the key term for that week. Then there are a few open-ended questions for you to reflect on what you learned and your goals of how to apply it to your life.

I find it especially helpful to open my own Bible to read the context of the story where each verse is drawn from. Since each devotion is intended to last a week, I find that I uncover more parallels as I re-read his story for that week, and spend time focusing on a different Bible verse each day.

I do not have the addiction in this book but i had the chance to be taught by this man in a substance abuse class in college he was the most amazing man/teacher i have ever had i am praying for his family everyone will miss him as will i. I read the book to better get to know what he went through it made me very sad to read it but it also mad me realise that we can overcome these things with the help of god
