Full of useful information,
This review is from: Managing Migraines: Dealing with migraines from all perspectives ... something to help each sufferer (Paperback)
I recently had contact with the author of this book and she was so empathetic and compassionate to me about my migraine headaches. she suggested things to me that none of the doctors or neurologists I've seen over the years have bothered to suggest. I tried some of her advice- I started keeping a migraine journal and figured out my triggers from that. I also started taking omega 3, magnesium and vitamin B2. It took about 5wks, but my migraines have reduced from 5 days a month to 1 or 2 at most every 2 months. I am so grateful to her for her wholesome advice and for actually LISTENING to me. I saw that another review mentioned she wasn't a doctor. but honestly? I had better advice from her, as a migraineur and pharmacist, than I've every had from my doctors- and I've seen plenty of the years. the information in this book is short and sweet but theres loads of objective options (she doesn't tell you to use some miracle cure but helps you figure out how many choices you have). the book is not intimidating like so many of the fat books out there. I read some others, but they were so long-winded that I gave up trying to search for the hidden clues. Good for you for writing this book. thanks for getting this inforamtion out there for those of us who are sick of having migraines.

Great resource for many possible solutions!,

This review is from: Managing Migraines: Dealing with migraines from all perspectives ... something to help each sufferer (Paperback)
This is a great book! I found this to be an excellent source of information that covers a wide variety of possible remedies. I think this approach is extremely important as one physician or specialist may not be able to suggest alternatives other than what they are trained to treat. It is so important to take your own initiative to research all the possible solutions and keep trying to find the right combination that works for you as an individual. This book is such a good starting point for providing many suggestions that you may not have known about or even considered trying. The author has a very caring and encouraging approach to suggesting remedies and presents the information so clearly that it is easy to absorb the information and be inspired to keep trying for a solution. I'll be using it as a constant resource of information on the supplements, vitamins and therapies which may also work for my sinus headaches and general health!

This awesome book is full of useful information that has made such a positive difference to my life. This is the sort of information we should get from our doctors and health care providers- and sadly we aren't. It is sad that such grass-roots, good, down-to-earth, easy-to-follow advice is only now made available to migraine sufferers. I wish I had been made aware of all these options a long time ago. I could have stopped my pain so much sooner. Every migraine sufferer should own this book. Thank you for making this amazing information available to us migraine sufferers to reduce our pain at long last!!!

This review is from: Managing Migraines: Dealing with migraines from all perspectives ... something to help each sufferer (Paperback)
I have suffered from migraines all my life and never managed to get them completely under control. A friend gave me this amazing book and it has truly changed my life as well as that of many of my patients. As a family practitioner I was never made aware of the full scope of migraine treatments available on the market. Being a trained medic the default prescription is medication. But this book has shown me that medicine is only one of the many alternatives to managing migraines. I started changing my lifestyle, as pointed out in this book and tried some of the alternative remedies. Currently I am taking Omega 3 capsules and within 2 weeks I noticed a remarkable change. I have not had a migraine in over 7 months, which is a huge improvement in my quality of life. I don't know why I never tried this route before.
What this book does, is emphasize the advice you would get from your doctor or homeopath or pharmacist or nutritionist, but elaborates on it in layman's terms and in a manner that is very understanding and empathetic towards the reader. It is clear that the author suffers from migraines, because of her compassionate writing style. I always have a copy or two on hand in my practice now, to lend to migraine sufferers. Not every patient wants to take heavy medication to cure their migraines. I have found that starting a patient on lifestyle changes and a healthy regimen to begin with often makes a significant difference. I ask them to keep a migraine diary as described in the book and this helps me to help them. Sometimes, of course, medication is necessary, but this book objectively advises the reader on how to take the medicines to derive maximum benefit. I am very impressed by the author's in-depth knowledge of medication, supplements and other remedies. This is a book that will provide solutions to every sufferer- whether you like to take medicines, or natural remedies, or try alternatives such as reflexology/ acupuncture etc. Managing Migraines furthermore emphasizes that not every remedy will work for every sufferer. This is something that most practitioners could learn from. It is a sad fact that migraines are one of the most under diagnosed and therefore inadequately treated conditions. Get this book and take charge of your migraines. This book should be available in every family practice! It changed my life. It changed the quality of life for many of my patients and I'm sure it will be of help to every sufferer out there. Get a copy- you will not regret it.

Great advice, personal touch, migraines managed.,

I bought Managing Migraines about 6 months ago, when I was getting up to 10 migraines a month. This book has changed my life! I now get only about 1 migraine every few months and feel like a new person. In my job I can't afford to keep taking sick leave for migraines. I never knew about all my treatment options and got so stressed about not knowing what else to do. I am now no longer taking the heavy prescription medicines I was on for so long without much improvement, but am using various natural methods- a combination of vitamins and supplements, reflexology (awesome!) and have changed a few things in my lifestyle- cut out some migraine triggers (I never knew some of the factors affected migraines, so this was a huge eye-opener for me). I now keep presciption painkillers on hand just in case I get a bad one, but haven't needed to use much of them at all. This book is a must for all migraine sufferers. It feels as though the author is speaking straight to you in language you can understand and with guidelines that are so easy to follow. And: there are so many options- medicines, as well as natural! I wish I'd known all of this a long time ago. No one ever gave me the full picture. I have leant this book to quite a few of my friends who also get migraines and they've all landed up buying their own copies. Thank you. This kind of unbiased information should have been made available to us a long time ago.

Help at hand at long last!,

This book is going to be my companion for some time to come! The immense wealth of information in it will bring me closer to finally determining my personal trigger factors and then choosing the most effective treatment for me especially with the help of the migraine diary - clever idea that is! The author managed to speak in a language which anybody can understand and the huge number of treatment alternatives plus her in-depth information on specific needs must surely be one of the most comprehensive books on migraines I have come across in my long battle with this debilitating affliction. Without a doubt knowledgeably written by a sufferer for sufferers! Another point I find very convincing and appealing is the fact that the author is in no way trying to sell a specific product line as so often is the case with other treatments advertised and which makes me always wonder. I feel immensely relieved to have help at hand at long last! Highly recommended my fellow sufferers!!

Hope in sight for my migraines thanks to this book,
This review is from: Managing Migraines: Dealing with migraines from all perspectives ... something to help each sufferer (Paperback)
I have suffered for a long time with migraines and thought I'd tried everything. I got this book from my granddaughter and it is full of helpful advice. I never knew I had so many choices. Now I feel as though there is hope for me after all these years of suffering. The author writes from a position of someone who knows what it is like to have migraines. I'd recommend it to those who don't want to wade through a lot of medical jargon. It is simple to read and understand. I wish there was something like this for my arthritis too. I would recommend this book to everyone who has migraine headaches and is tired of not being told the full truth by their doctors. Mine never told me about all of these choices. I have lent this book to my daughter and 2 other friends, all of whom were so grateful for the helping hand. We all suffer differently and in the past have tried things that have worked for some of us, but not for the others. Now we have a whole menu of choices to work through. The treatments are presented in a very understandable format, all the important information is at hand and you can make an informed objective decision as to what you want to try. I also like the part about migraines in the elderly or pregnant women or children- this helps us in special cases decide what is safe for us to use. I finally feel as though there is an end in sight.

Some helpful info,

This review is from: Managing Migraines: Dealing with migraines from all perspectives ... something to help each sufferer (Paperback)
This book did contain some helpful information about migraines, and some helpful tips for coping with them. However, some things in the book seemed surprisingly outdated for a book which came out so recently. For example, the book uses the language of "classic migraine" and "common migraine," instead of the current language of migraine with or without aura. Such lapses made me wonder if the author was up to date on other information or not. This is not a bad book, but there are better books available.
