The book has a lot of the reg info on what PCOS is, and spends well over half the book talking about diets and food. It's written by a dietician, and so it's helpful for someone looking for tips on food that you may not find to quite this extent in other books. It offers good tips for eating healthy, and for excersizing.
It does recommend a low GI diet, which is the best diet for PCOS, and talkes exstensively about insulin resistance as well- a great key word for those with PCOS. The book is more like a manual of course, it's a "dummies" series, so it lacks a lot of warmth. It does have some interesting recipes, but like the last review- many of them do contain items you can buy in the US and does seem to be European based.

Dangerous Advice,

When I first got this book, I was very impressed with the wealth of information that it seemed to offer. I was thrilled when the author recommended a diet pill named Rimonabant. It's an anti-obesity drug that not only helps you lose weight, but quit smoking and possibly cut back on alcohol. I contacted my doctor's office to request a prescription when I found out that the drug was dangerous and had an entire host of side effects. It was banned in Europe and has not been approved by the FDA. Huh?! What kind of recommendation is that? This discovery made me question the entire content of the book. I think that I would be better off sticking with the vitamins that the author did not advocate.

I thought this book would provide recipes that I could make to eat better for my condition. Some of the ingredients aren't sold in the USA therefore I cannot buy them. I think the recipes were written in another country. I don't suggest purchasing this book unless you live in Europe.

This is a great book. I've only read part of it so, far but already it's an easy to use referance. There are other PCOS books I have gotten that are too scientificto understand easily and seem to be more for the British then US audiences. This book is for both, easy to understand and full of fantastic tips to alleviate symptoms and to bring up with your dr. This diesease is such a pain to deal with it's nice to have a good referance like this. I would highly recommend it.

I'm so happy to find a book that has more realistic diet information to help manage PCOS.
This book is informative on PCOS, what it is and how it effects the body. Changing your diet and exercise habits are key to getting rid of or at least lessening the annoying symptoms that come along with this disease. This is a definite must have!

Not a first choice,

I didn't realize it at the time of purchase, but this book is written in a clearly British tone which can be rather distracting. There are British words that I couldn't understand, and many of the references (websites, organizations) are located in the UK, which as an inhabitant of the US didn't help me at all. Overall some useful advice, but this book is repetitive both within an individual chapter and across numerous chapters. Honestly not worth the time.

Saving my life!,
By
This review is from: Managing PCOS For Dummies (Paperback)
I was diagnosed with PCOS 15 years ago and have tried everything under the sun to get help. I've been to countless doctors and no one could help because there is no cure for PCOS. Everyone told me the same thing: lose weight. If you have PCOS, you know this is virtually impossible. No matter what I tried, the scale would not budge. I bought this book, and for 2 weeks I have been following the diet, excercise and mental wellness advice, and I have lost 13 lbs!!! I have not been able to lose as much as 5 lbs for 15 years, but suddenly, this book makes it easy to understand the sensitive nutritional mine-field I was walking on. The only reason it only gets 4 stars from me, is that the book is apparently written in the UK and I don't understand some of the terms and foods. Overall, a real life saver- Thank You!!!
