Editorial Reviews

Review

The availability and selection of massage therapy books is very limited. A text written as outlined will be beneficial not only to the field of massage therapy, but will contribute to the educational process of massage therapists everywhere - much needed.

Clearly written, easy to follow and very thorough, the book will a valuable companion to students and practitioners."

5.0 out of 5 stars "Valuable Companion to Students and Practictioners", January 18, 2008
This review is from: Managing Physical Stress with Therapeutic Massage (Paperback)
"Managing Physical Stress takes you through everything you need to know to help stressed-out clients in five steps. Step one is to measure the client's stress using the Personal Stress Inventory and Job and Lifestyle Survey--included in the appendices--
Along with extensive postural assessment procedures. Step two is to develop a comprehensive stress reduction plan with massage therapy and client homework based on your interpretation of the personal stress inventory and client intake. Chapter Five, "Improve Posture to Reduce Stress," includes postural assessment methods, massage techniques for postural reeducation, and stretching and strengthening home exercises. Other chapters cover breathing, relieving pain, dieting home exercises. Other chapters cover breathing, relieving pain, sleep and self-massage. In step three, you and your client implement the plan over a 10-week period. Step four is to reassess the client's program, noting progress and making recommendations. And finally, step five is to work with the client to evaluate the results. Included in the final chapter is a section on "developing and maintaining ethical relationships with highly stressed clients," in which author Jeffrey Forman shares his wisdom on making the most of your time with these clients. Managing Physical Stress is the result of more than 20 years of practice in teaching massage therapy and stress reduction. Clearly written, easy to follow and very thorough, the book will a valuable companion to students and practitioners."

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of useful docs, February 19, 2009
This review is from: Managing Physical Stress with Therapeutic Massage (Paperback)
The most interesting/helpful part of this book is that it provides you with all of the documentation and instruction needed to do a posture analysis, a flexability text, a stress test, etc, which are all useful in create treatment plans as a massage therapist. The title is deceptive in that tt doesn't really teach how to manage stress, it simply asks you to analyze the source of your stress and try to reduce that.
