Wowie! Great ethnography,

This is much better than most books on native American cultures. It is geared toward students in the middle to upper grades. It does a wonderful job with Mandan legends and beliefs.The book gives a good portrayal of Mandan dwellings, villages, crafts, and technology (especially water craft), and gives good descriptions of how dwellings and bull boats were made. Good photographs throughout, and an astounding addition -- this book includes word lists for the Mandan language. Dynamite. Perfect for our summer home school unit on Lewis and Clark's expedition. |
