Ultimately, all these heroes owe their existence to writers; historical heroes to those who chronicle their stories and fictional heroes to the artists who create them for stage, screen or the printed page. The origin of actual historical heroes, whose lives writers record, is self-evident. Fictional heroes are commonly viewed as the product of nothing but imagination. I'm not so sure that's true. I suspect their seeds actually exist somewhere in reality.
Our generation probably has more fictional heroes than any other, but are they great heroes? I don't think they can be until they've established their durability over time. Once we become history ourselves and that nostalgic perspective mellows how our age is perceived, who will our great heroes be? A sports star? I doubt it. An international spy? A super-hero? A police officer is a fair bet. But maybe, just maybe it'll be a person like Nathan Burdett, whose skill level with firearms is exceeded only by his iron will to do the right thing.

Great Sequel to B-Zone,

Al Voth's second book is a huge improvement over his first effort. The characters, including the hero, Nathan Burdett, are more developed, and the story line is more believable. There are several plot twists that keep the novel interesting, and compelling. The book is very hard to put down. As a side note, all technical details relating to firearms and hunting are technically correct. There is nothing that stops the flow of a story more than reading Hollywood style lies about firearms or inaccurate technical data related to firearms. This book contains nothing to stop the action. Five Stars.

Mr. Voth's first book, B-Zone, was burdened with a simplistic characters, predictable plot, and the relative inexperience of the writer. In spite of all that, it was an interesting and fun read. Now comes the sequel, and it treats the first book as a mere introductory chapter to the REAL story! Mr. Voth has obviously taken criticisms of the first book to heart as character development, writing style, and the plot are all much improved. Technical detail is superb, a feature usually sadly lacking in books of this genre. The characters start to come alive as we see more details into their motivation, flaws, and humanity. Sub-plots make their appearance, and start to intricately weave through and divert the main plot line. I look forward to the third book of this series. Hopefully, it will be better still!

A great read and a hero for today,

This is the much anticipated sequel to B-Zone. I have a fear of sequels because they never seem to live up to the original. Al Voth has proven me wrong by taking his writing and his story to a new level. If you're looking for a hero, Nathan Burdett is him. If you're looking for a great book, Mandatory Reload is one. I'm a slow reader, I never rush through a book, I savor them. In Mandatory Reload, every page was delicious.I tried to set the book down at midnight and get some sleep. That was a mistake I don't intend to repeat with an Al Voth book. I lost a night's sleep and then had to finish the book the next day. -- ShootersBookshelf.com
