Excellent book!, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Mandie and the Secret Tunnel (Mandie, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read this book about 4 times and each time I have read it I understand it a bit more. This is really an amazing book! I recommend it to people of ages 9 and up. Its about a girl name Mandie Shaw who's father had died recently and she thinks that god no longer loves her. Her mother doesn't seem to care because she married right after he died. Then Mandie was sent away to be a servant for a rich family. They were all cruel to her, not letting Mandie go to school or even to church. Soon she could not stand it anymore and ran away to her Uncle John's mansion with the help of her dear father's friend, Uncle Ned. But Mandie soon learns that Uncle John was away in Europe and had died there to. Now everyone is searching for the will, and people are visiting the mansion and saying they are related to him. I don't want to give away anymore, so you will have to read it to find out what happens. I like this book because Lois Gladys Leppard has written it so well that it feels like I am really Mandie. This author has also written about 40 books on the Mandie series. I have read numerous books written by her and all of them are excellent!

Never too old for Mandie, November 11, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mandie and the Secret Tunnel (Mandie, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
"The Mandie Mysteries" (by Louis Leppard) are a great series for any gal-young, old, you name it! I have been reading Mandie books since I was 9 and have been reading them ever since! Even if you don't enjoy reading, you will like them--they are great light reading! They all have intriguing plots and you can't lay it down once you start! Also, I really appreciate the fact that the author is Christian and it shines through in her characters. Mandie isn't perfect--quite human, but when she messes up, she asks for forgiveness. And though she is scared at times, she always trusts God.
K-my review: <Mandie and the Secret Tunnel> (book # 1)
You are immediately drawn into this book by sympathizing with Mandie as she goes through her fathers funeral and deals with her cruel "relatives" and neighbors. However, things start looking up for Mandie as you get furthur along in the story and she has some exiting adventures!
The only thing I didn't like was when Joe proposed to Mandie. (I mean, I like romance --(c'mon i'm a teen girl!), but Mandie is 11!!) Can't she just have a crush and not have to get engaged!!
Anyway, besides that I love this book!! Read it!!
P.S. About me: I'm not a "kid"--I'm actually a 15 year old Christian, homeschooled teen girl. I'm from Tennessee, and I'm above average in all subjects except math in which I am average! (and that's the truth too!) Oh yes--and I'm a bookworm : )

I thought this was an amazing book! When I went on the web site, I was even more amazed that the author wrote it when she was only eleven years old! I think every girl would like this book!
