Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Lois began her first Mandie story when she was only eleven years old. But eventually the manuscript was tucked away in a drawer and forgotten. Lois went on to attend Furman University and studied music for several years in New York City where she and her sister sang professionally. Some years ago, Lois was prompted to pull that old manuscript out and began to work on Mandie's story-of her childhood in the South at the turn of the century and her Cherokee heritage. The rest is history and now the MANDIE BOOKS series have sales nearing six million copies! Lois writes from her home in South Carolina. Enthusiastic young fans fill her mailbox with their insightful responses to her stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mandie and the Windmill's Message (Book 20), December 3, 2003
This review is from: Mandie and the Windmill's Message (Mandie, Book 20) (Mass Market Paperback)
Mandie, Celia, Jonathan, Mrs. Taft, and Senator Morton are touring Europe during the summer, and now they're in Holland. Mandie and her friends are fascinated with the windmills and Dutch culture.
But the windmill near them is acting strangely. The panels are moving as if it was broadcasting some sort of code, and Mandie is convinced that something sinister is up.
And she's not mistaken. Someone tampers with the paints at a china factory, and Mandie wonders if that is connected with the windmill. Or is it?

This book is wonderful. The story line is good, and it had the right mixture of suspense and mystery to make it a truly amazing book.
The part about the china factory is interesting. And the fact that Jonathan disappeared just before the paints were mixed makes it even more page turning. I just had to find out whether or not Jonathan had done it before I could put the book down.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Mandie Book!, April 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mandie and the Windmill's Message (Mandie, Book 20) (Mass Market Paperback)
A great book! Mandie is still traveling through Europe with Grandmother Taft, Senator Morton, Celia & Jonathan. They are renting a house in Holland, and Mandie finds a mystery, as usual. This time it involves a neighbors' windmill, a trip to the Delftweare factory, and Mandie's endless jumping to conclusions. This time Mandie gets herself into a predicment involving Snowball climbing on Windmill Blades.... Thankfully, good old, dependeble Uncle Ned shows up to save Papoose. The conclusion is an unusual one, and the book will keep you guessing 'till the end!

4.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT Book!!! :) :), July 9, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mandie and the Windmill's Message (Mandie, Book 20) (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book! Mandie, Celia, one of her best friends, and Jonathan find a new mystery in Holland. Mandie and her friends find something very interesting about the windmill. The windmill seems to give off weird messages throughout the day. Could this be just a harmless prank or is someone really in trouble? Then there is the mystery about the blue paint turning to green. Could Jonathon be part of it? Mandie meets new people including the miller's son, who seems to like Mandie. But when Mandie and her friends ask the miller about the weird signs on the windmill, he storms out of the room! What could all of this mean? Read to find out! I'm sure you'll enjoy this book! :) :)
