Editorial Reviews

In his hidden laboratory deep in Russia, Dr. Karl Zimmer has invented the Mandroid, a humanoid robot which follows the motions of a man in a special control suit. He has offered the invention to the USA, who have sent Smith and Wait from the CIA for inspection. However Zimmer's partner Drago has different plans, wants to sell Mandroid to the military. The night he tries to steal Mandroid, he becomes exposed to the highly toxic Superconn. But he can flee and won't give up on Mandroid, even though he's terribly disfigured.

5.0 out of 5 stars Man And Machine Are One...!!, July 15, 2002
By
Michael Fleishman (Hauppauge, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mandroid [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Deep within the shadowy heart of Eastern Europe, two scientists struggle for control of their remarkable discovery: Supercon; an element so powerful it can only be handled by Mandroid; a hi-tech robot guided by a "virtual reality" headset. Dr. Karl Zimmer, joined by his devoted daughter Zanna, wants nothing more than to help mankind. But his partner Dr. Drago, obsessed by Supercon's potential to transform Mandroid into an invincible fighting machine, has plans of his own. Following a hellish, disfiguring, laboratory accident, Drago steals Mandroid and begins a gruesome game of cat and mouse with Zimmer, carving a deadly path down cobblestone streets and abandoned mine shafts...toward a blood-soaked showdown between man and machine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mandroid, February 14, 2011
This review is from: Mandroid [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A pair of brilliant researchers have developed a powerful new element with limitless scientific and military applications, but when one partner refuses to sell the secret formula to the military, the embittered Drago attempts to steal it back. Drago is horribly burned in the process, and he sets out for revenge against Dr. Zimmer and his allies using a mind-controlled robot: the Mandroid. Essentially a DARKMAN clone made on the cheap, MANDROID also includes a few other muddled Science Fiction cliches that are added for good measure. Jack Ersgard's untimely pacing puts a great amount of distance between the action sequences, although the film closes with a high-powered gun battle in the end. The Mandroid unit, itself, is criminally underused throughout the plot, which instead focuses on Drago's slow-moving quest for revenge. MANDROID would be followed by the slightly superior INVISIBLE: THE CHRONICLES OF BENJAMIN KNIGHT in another blend of Science Fiction, Horror, and Fantasy.
