Product Description

The PROlite yoga mat (formally known as the PurpleLite Travel Mat) is a fresh alternative for people who want a lighter, zero-waste mat with superior quality and comfort. Like its big brother the Black Mat PRO, the PROlite is all about performance, both in the studio and on the go. Available in five passion-inspiring colors, the PROlite gives you more choices and the same stellar Manduka results. It will enhance your practice while saving our planet from waste and emissions produced by traditional mat manufacturing. The PROlite also offers a Lifetime Guarantee.

  • Zero-waste; ekoTex certified, emissions-free manufacturing
  • High performance in a lightweight form
  • Superior wear and longevity
  • Slip resistant, yet non-sticky, even when wet from perspiration
  • Travel-friendly for the yogi on-the-go
  • Lifetime Guarantee
  • Weight: 4 pounds
  • 71 x 24 inches, 3/16 inches thick

To Store:
Roll your PROlite with the top side (fabric-finish) facing outwards. This keeps the corners of the mat flat when practicing.

To Break In:
The surface texture of the PROlite improves with use. Our customers have found that the best way to break intheir mat is to use it on a daily basis. Another trick is to sprinkle coarse sea salt over your mat, scrub it down with a sponge, and air dry in the sunshine.

To Clean:
Use the Manduka Mat Renew or any non-solvent household cleaner and a damp cloth or sponge. Hang to dry in the sunshine. DO NOT put your mat in the washing machine- it may break the machine and ruin your mat

Manduka's Green Mission
Manduka PRO series yoga mats, designed to last a lifetime (or two), curb the amount of PVC mats that enter landfills every year and reduces overall mat consumption. Also, during the manufacturing of most PVC products, toxic emissions may be released into the air. However, PRO series mats are manufactured through a process that ensures no toxic emissions are released into the atmosphere. The Black Mat PRO is certified safe for human contact by OEKO-TEX, an environmental certification agency in Europe for the textile industry.

I have really bony knees, and this mat provides just the right amount of cushioning.

Don't waste your time buying cheap mats that need to be replaced every few months, make the investment and get a good mat that will last!
If your hands or feet sweat even a little, I'd recommend a towel as well because the mat gets slippery.

i bought this mat in the hopes of enjoying the benefits of the high density "black mat" made by manduka without the bulkiness of that mat. first of all, either of the manduka mats is far better than the versions other companies have produced in response to the mat's popularity. there is not the heavy industrial smell to the mat that can get in the air, your clothes, and skin. their density makes it far and away a completely different experience than the typical yoga mat. they are more stable and cushion without being squishy. they are very sturdy and resilient and will last a long time, so your yoga mats will not end up littering the environment over time. between the two manduka mats, i favor this one because it is much easier to transport and store and i do not notice any loss of comfort from the slight difference in thickness (3/16" instead of 1/4"). if you are taller or heavier than average, do very vigorous yoga workouts, or have particularly sensitive joints, you might prefer the manduka black mat, particularly as it comes in an extra long style. but i found this mat at least as stable (perhaps more so), and more versatile, just the thing for a secure and comfortable support for yoga. another option in using this mat is to lay a cotton yoga rug on top of it. the cotton absorbs sweat and can be washed easily, so your mat will last even longer and you get a more natural feel against the skin during practice. cotton rugs are the traditional support for yoga, particularly ashtanga, and this mat and rug combination is often recommended by fine teachers as the best way to get the best of both worlds. if that's not enough, the $45 price i paid through amazon is far better than i saw in stores or other websites. you just can't go wrong with this mat.

Overall I would have to say this is the best yoga mat I have ever used. I have used the mat for five weeks ~3-4 days per wk, and followed the directions for "breaking in" the mat. It is nice and sticky and provides very good stability and padding when dry.

I bought this mat however, because it was supposed to grip even when wet. I practice ashtanga style yoga and sweat a lot. Once the mat gets wet I find it to be just as slippery as any cheapo mat.

I researched long and hard before I invested in a yoga mat. For quality mats, my choice came down between the Manduka PROlite v. the Jade Harmony. Both are 3/16 thick and weigh about the same (Jade is heavier by 1/2 lbs). I ended up buying the Manduka Prolite Amore because it was cheaper, closed-cell (less bacteria, easier to clean), and has a lifetime guarantee (for the amount of money, I want a mat that lasts)! When the mat arrived, like the other reviews indicated, it was super slippery (there was non-existant smell; it didn't bother me). I gave it three or four washes in the shower, coarse salt scrubs, and 3/4 uses per week with mat cleaner wipe downs. After two months, it is less slippery than it used to be HOWEVER I still slip on it in a vinyasa/power yoga class. I don't consider myself to be a heavy sweat-er, but my feet and hands slip during most poses and I have to constantly search for "dry" space on my mat (I almost always slip/fall to my death in wheel pose). The constant slipping has caused unnecessary strain on my wrists to keep my body in place during various poses.

If you sweat minimally, Manduka prolite is a great mat - great colors, lasts a long time, and feels very study/great cushion during practice. However, if you sweat at all during class, I highly recommend going the Jade route. I just returned my Manduka and purchased a Jade - yes, everything sticks to it, it is open celled (greater risk of bacteria accumulating), and has a strong rubber smell in the beginning - but no slipping! A silp-free downward dog feels heavenly after months of constant readjustment on the Manduka. I'm not sure how the Jade will hold up with constant use, but it is the mat my studio recommends and even if it breaks down after 1 year of use, it is probably a good idea to get a new mat (if purely for hygienic reasons). While yogitoes might solve my slippage problem, it also has grip-to-mat problems. For me, I'd rather focus on my practice than focus on not falling.

After carefully reading the reviews I decided to ignore the negative ones and go ahead with a purchase of a Manduka ProLite mat. But then it all began. The slow realization that I've just spent $80.00+ on a new yoga mat I'll never be able to use.

I purchased my mat from a retail store in Chicago, who won't take it back because I went through the salt scrub process Manduka told me to do.

I tried everything to make this mat not slippery as a soaped up marble floor, but after months of trying to use it and having to use a towel or another mat provided by the studio I've given up.

I'm out $80 dollars and I highly recommend, if you sweat, to avoid this mat. For gentle yoga, or yoga where you do not perspire this is a great mat. It doesn't absorb sweat so it theoretically stays very clean, which is fantastic. But if you sweat on it you will not get past the point where you begin to perspire.

I wish I would have listened to the other (few) negative reviews rather than assuming that since most reviews were positive I would have a positive experience with my mat.

I've also talked to several people at my yoga studio and they all agree that these mats are useless without a towel. Hopefully Manduka will give me a discount on one of their towels since my mat is useless without it.

I can happily end this review by telling you that the people at Manduka are very honest and helpful and they went as far as sending me a towel to use on my mat for no charge. For their kindness and understanding I am tremendously thankful.

Happy Yoga!
