It seemed like such a simple plan - add a quick release plate to my venerable Tiltall tripod's 2 & 7/8th inch diameter camera mounting surface. Unfortunately,the base of the Manfrotto's quick release lever extends approximately 1/8th of an inch downward about 1 & 1/8th inches from the center of the bottom plate. This makes it impossible for the bottom plate to lay flat against my tripod's mounting surface.

The ad copy's assurance that this device allows you to "Add a quick release system to any tripod or monopod" turns out not to be true.

That said, it's a well made little gizmo and looks like would make the perfect addition to a different (perhaps, newer) tripod.

Just wanted to provide a compatibility warning to users considering purchasing this QR Plate for their Glidecams. The base of the QR Plate is not flat, so it will not lay flat against the Glidecam's camera base. If you look at the customer uploaded pictures carefully, you can see that the safety latch extends below the base of the plate.

But it works great on a regular tripod and Manfrotto's products are meant to last a life time.

Very well made. I have used it several times now and have had no problems. Makes it so much easier to use the tripod. I have used it with a D80 with a Tamron 18-270 zoom lens attached and it handled it easily. Highly recommend this produt to others

This is a well manufactured little piece, with solid construction and time-tested design. Now I know why people pay so much for Manfrotto products.

It comes with 2 pieces, the camera plate mounts to the camera and the base mounts to the tripod. The two pieces can attach with ease, as the camera plate will push a little brass button that flips the lock lever to the locking position automatically. The little click sound and the flip of the lever provide an easy confirmation for me. To prevent accidental unlocking of the main lock lever, there's a secondary safety lever below it that can also be flipped. It's small and is hidden behind the main lock lever, so it won't get caught in the photographer's jacket/camera strap, etc. All the safety is necessary to avoid crashing the valueable camera and lens down to the floor.

The camera plate grabs on to the bottom of my camera very well. It doesn't twist even when I mounted a very heavy lens and had the camera in portrait orientation.

Unlike tripod heads that need a stringent weight specification, this is pretty much a one-size fit all. It feels safe when I had a semi-pro DSLR, a 3lbs lens and a flash mounted on it.

I have a couple of tripods and a mono-pod, none of which came with a quick release mechanism. So the perfect add on would be this Manfrotto RC2, since it can be shared. It allows me to use the tripod more often, since mounting/unmounting isn't a hassle anymore.

I purchased this adapter and quick release plate to use with my newly purchased Nikon D3100 digital camera and an old tripod that was given to me many, many years ago and is a favorite of mine: Quick Set Elevator Champ, Model C1. The adapter fit perfectly to the top of the tripod and is fastened using the tripod's machine screw. The quick release plate fits perfectly to the threaded opening at the bottom of the camera. What I like is that releasing the camera from the tripod is quick and easy, probably less than a couple of seconds, but safe because the two step release process minimizes the chance of the camera falling off the tripod by accident. In use the tripod and camera really becomes one solid unit. The quick release plate does not interfere with the battery compartment which is located on the bottom of the D3100.

If you have more than one camera that you want to use with the tripod you can purchase additional quick release plates separately or you can easily change a plate to another camera.

This is a solid, well made product.

I have 4 of these installed on my tripods, monopod. marco focus rail. They are secure and quick to use.

The 323 RC2 clamp is well made, very secure and easy to use. Unfortunately, the housing on the bottom side of the quick release lever protrudes 1/4" from the base and is 1-2/16" from the center while the outer edge of my Gitzo G1277M ball head is 1-3/16" from the center causing a 1/4" overlap. I could fix it with a 1/4" x 1" washer but opted for an Arca-Swiss compatible system instead. Not sure about other ball heads but I would check the clearance first. I also use my tripod in salty environments and the salt water quickly caused the RC-2 safety release lever to stick. A little WD-40 fixed it easily. All-in-all a very nice product at a reasonable price.

After looking through review after review, I decided to purchase this Manfrotto quick release over the others because of the few and far between horror stories that the other quick release mounts had. Upon receiving this mount, the first thought that came to mind was: Why didn't anyone else just say, this one is all metal!

My camera may not be the fanciest out there, but it's still about $1000 worth of equipment I have attached to the head of my tripod. I don't use a cheap tripod because I don't want my camera to fall over. And so why should I then try to save maybe $20 at most and save on a quick release mount that cannot guarantee the safety of my camera? I do not trust those plastic contraptions.

The construction quality of this device is excellent. The parts are mostly metal and aren't going to break.
The mechanism that holds the plate in the adapter is also metal, with a "safety" that prevents you from accidentally releasing your camera when it is mounted. I feel like my camera is very safe and secure with this mount.

The rapid connect works perfectly on my monopod and the quick release plate is compatable with my other Manfrotto heads.

My favorite tripod is an old Vivitar 200 series that my sister had given me when the head piece broke. This Manfrotto 323 RC2 allowed me to fix the tripod that I could use it with my existing Manfrotto base. I use the Manfrotto 642 RC2 on my monopod and now I can have both.
