This ball head is great for my compact tripod setup. Holds my Nikon D80 and 18-200 lens just fine. Light and beautifully constructed!

I use this with my Nikon d70s and a Gorillapod SLR. It's very sturdy and easily holds up an 18-200mm VR.

Fits my Canon EOS 40D with 75 - 250 zoom lens perfectly. Easy to carry, and quality is excellent.
I purchased this unit for my Joby GP3 Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Tripod for Digital SLR Cameras. I tried taking pictures without a BallHead but it was cumbersome, difficult to adjust and in the end took too long to frame the shot. You simply cannot adjust the Gorillapod as effectively as you can with a BallHead. It is a very flexible, functional and useful must have addition for my Gorillapod and slr.

For a few more dollars, Amazon also sells the Bogen 484RC2 tripod head that includes a quick-release plate. If you use your tripod a lot, the quick-release feature is very convenient.

I'm using this on a Gorillapod Focus or SLR-Zoom model. I've got arca-swiss plates on all my cameras (even G11) and big lenses tripod collars because I use tripods frequently. I've got Really Right Stuff ballheads/QR clamps on my big Gitzo tripods, and have a arca-swiss style clamp in this ballhead. This small, light ballhead works well, as long as you don't overload it and expect stability as you'd get from a bigger one. It's great with a Canon 7D + 100mm macro (or smaller lens), and works fine with a 180mm macro or 70-200mm f/4 if you are a bit careful to balance the camera/lens as well as you can. Two weeks ago I was shooting with my Canon 100-400mm (extended to 400mm) from the top of my car after sunset, and it did the job. That's pushing the limits and I'd not take my hand off the camera and turn my back, but it did what I needed...and it's a very compact package I leave in my car all the time (unless it's in a backpack with me). This ballhead with a Gorillapod SLR-Zoom model is fabulous for shooting VERY close macros on the tabletop or street with a good P&S. My Canon G11 loves that combo!
