I was a little hesitant in getting this tripod because it didn't have any reviews but one on the 4 section legs version. I'm glad I did get it though, this is very sturdy tripod, perfect for my Canon 60D + Canon 15-85mm + Canon 430 EX II flash combo I use for traveling. It is a little on the heavy side though, but the construction is very good, also all the materials used are of very good quality (magnesium alloy I think?). It's not too small, not too big, so I think it's a good size to carry on travels without comprising in sturdyness or quality, and price. Some people complain about the head but I think it's good for photo, not so good for video, so keep that in mind (I will still use it for video, although I won't be moving the camera around when using it, just in one position). I highly recommend Manfrotto and their tripods.

I got the manfrotto shoulder strap for it just to find out the tripod doesn't have a hook to be attached to, I had to make one my own, no biggie here.

After consulting, a lot, with several pro photographers, I chose this make/model. I am so happy I did. A bit more expensive than most, but for a serious amateur or starting pro, this is the best, hands down.

very pleased with this tripod, I didnt want to get a compact one because they are so unstable for landscape work, but this fits the bill perfectly for me

Having my first DSLR, I dint want to spend lot on a tripod to start with and hence purchased a $50 Ball head tripod. It was nice but it was still kind of flimsy. I had problem in testing my DSLR using ball head where you have to adjust the focus by mm only axis and x axis to move the focus point .
I also had a handy cam . Also, the ball head kinda got loose when I turn the cam on the tripod even if I have fully tightened it.

Got this one and it has the pan head for both X and Y axis tilt with ease .. It has a nice switch for Portrait too. and the quality of the unit is pretty good . I got a bit disappointed with the leg Extension as it was hollow tubes but it still felt firm and holds my 7D good.

I don't think I will ever buy a better one than this (unless it breaks).. and happy that I invested on a piece that I can trust my Cam with.

Cheers

To sketch where I come from, I use a Manfrotto 055CXPRO as main tripod.

I wanted to work with 2 cameras and I did not have a second tripod for my light set-up.
The heavy set-up is a Manfrotto393 + a sigma 500mm, I would not recommend to put that on this tripod, even if you could since it only goes marginally over the load limit, the tripod does not feel at all as study as a more expensive one.
An other attention point is the RC1 quick release, which is very light. Compared to the RC2 which I use more on a Manfrotto 498RC2.

So you do get what you pay for, this MK293A3-A3RC1 is not the top Manfrotto tripod, however it is a good system and the use with a light camera set-up and due care on the RC1 release makes it very adequate. I would not recommend it as your main tripod, unless you are certain that you will always use a set-up under 2.5kg in almost wind still weather (like inside portraits).

The tripod body performs spectacularly, I use it in the field and so far it has held up perfectly. I would give this a 5 star if it were not for the head that comes with it. The head works great for holding my cameras however the material it is made of is very cheap and my head stripped itself at the base where it connects with the tripod just from me changing it out too often with other heads and cinema sliders.
