A Mathematical Thriller, August 20, 2009
This review is from: Manga Math Mysteries 4: The Kung Fu Puzzle: A Mystery with Time and Temperature (Graphic Universe) (Library Binding)
Who would have thought that a kids book based on mathematics would be enjoyable?
The "Kung Fu Puzzle", by Thielbar and Helmer, is truly a delight. Centred around a Kung Fu studio operated by Sizu Faiza and hid curious students, the Manga Math Mystery series uses simple mathematical principles to help unravel mysteries. In "Kung Fu", time is the tool, and properly applied to a large house, it creates a Kung Fu Studio laden with secrets. Thielbar teaches math concepts such as ratios, comparison, and time in an entertaining manner.
Artwise, this book falls into the manga style enjoyed by millions worldwide that has seen North American penetration into Sabrina and Salem (Archie Comics). It is a competent art job that really helps this book along.
The remaining three books are equally good, and as a University Math major, I highly recommend these for middle grade students.
