Best software for drawing Manga I've yet seen,
By
This review is from: Manga Studio Debut 3.0 (Mac) [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I drew a 15 page mini-comic last month partly to test the software out, and really ended up liking Manga Studio in the process. The big win for me was the default set of pens that actually behave more or less like real-world pens do. That, and a rotating canvas (space-shift to access this feature fast). And well-implemented comic tones. And programmable speed lines. And decent captioning. And did I mention the great pens? Other people I know who tried it also love the automatic panel divisions, although I haven't tried that feature out yet. It tends to get a bit slow on a Mac if you zoom in very close, but my solution was to work with a relatively zoomed-out image.

Worst Service Ever!!!! Beware!!!!,
I bought this item from Amazon and it arrived last night. I tried to install it on my computer but I kept getting the message "invalid serial number" even though the serial number was typed correctly. We called the company this morning and were told they would email the correct serial number in a few minutes. Hours passed. No email. We called again. They told us they would email the serial number. We did receive an email from them but it did not include the serial number. The email instructed us to scan in the receipt and the software packaging with the incorrect serial number. We complied. A while later we received another email requesting we submit the materials again. We called and asked for a supervisor. The gentlemen I spoke to said he was a supervisor. I asked for his supervisor. His answer: "This is where it ends." I asked if he was the President of the company. His answer: "He's out of the country. It ends with me." As of now we still do not have the serial number and cannot use the software we paid for. I'm sure it will eventually work but this process has been unnecessarily stressful. If you buy this product you'd better pray that you don't have a problem. Customer service at this company is awful!!!!

Excellent!,
I love this program! I load my pre-drawn images in and it immediately recognizes the black from the white (unlike photoshop), so you can put tones in right away with scanned images. The screen tones are enough to make your head spin there are so many of them!
Very easy and fun, and a great price for experimenting with whether you want to buy to pro version (EX, though unless you are a pro, it's good for any non-professional). ALso very flexible, it goes great with "manga studio for dummies" for learning all the ins-and-outs. Definitely would recommend it!

I love this software so far! I just wish I could afford Manga Studio EX just for the extra features!
This software is wonderful in providing me the chance to sketch before I throw together a composition! I admit the fact that layers can be used as either a finished drawing or sketch is a big help. Too bad you can't make drawings in color! |
