1.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good as they say, March 11, 2004
This review is from: Manga Techniques Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
Bad translation. General tips. Poor examples. That about sums it up. I bought four "how to draw manga" books, and this was the worst, followed by the second book in this series. I would recommend instead: "The Art of Manga" by Ben Krefta.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was blown away, July 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Manga Techniques Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
I just finished reading How to Draw the Dastardly Characters of Japanese Comics and I was blown away. This is a great book. I have much more of an appreciation for the comics that I love and at the same time, feel that I am closer to being able to create these comics myself - a great feeling. This format is excellent - great topics and terse, witty writing. You'll go back to it many times. The drawings are possibly the best yet in Mr. Hart's How to Draw series. There are great discussion of shadows, eyes, angles, and lots more. Highly recommended.
