5.0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL for any Manga student or fan!, July 7, 2005
By
Sam Mora (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mangaquest: Join the Adventure and Learn How to Drawn It (Mass Market Paperback)
My nephews (8 and 15) are really into Manga and wanted to learn how to make some of their own characters and stories. We were disappointed with a lot of the books out there - poor translations, not very helpful, and, quite frankly, boring. I just got this and they absolutely love it. First, it's just a great graphic novel - lots of fun, funny, a little scary. But, just as important, it uses the story to help you learn how to draw different kinds of characters, animals, machines, etc., in a way that actually engages you. And, unlike a lot of how-to books that teach manga, it's easy to follow. It also encourages and helps readers create their own characters and stories rather than just copying what's in the book. I've even gotten into it with them. A great gift for manga fans of any age!

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous, May 13, 2006

>A completely original approach to learning how to create a manga comic.

Sure it is original. A How-to-draw-manga book by two guys who can't draw manga (or anything) at all. The worst book on How-to I have seen by far.

If you want to learn how to draw manga, you'd better use your money buying something like a hamburguer. You will learn the same but you won't be wasting your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Introduction to Manga Drawing, October 15, 2005

Just got this and love it - the drawings are fantastic and it's a fun introduction for those of us getting into the manga style. Not sure what the other reviewer was complaining about - the art is great (not blurry - the style is meant to convey how it is sketched out) and the drawn in a way that helps you learn as well. Can't go wrong with this.
