5.0 out of 5 stars UNIQUE RECIPES - TERRIFIC COOKBOOK!
I could not wait for this cookbook to be published. It has some really super-delicious and unique recipes. Who wants to slave over a hot stove in the middle of summer? Personally, I seldom have time to cook meals that take considerable time to prepare. For this reason, I could not wait to try these salads and was not disappointed; the chicken salad with hazelnut sauce...

This book is very nice-looking. However, I was disappointed to find that it doesn't contain any of the recipes I've enjoyed at Mangia's over the years. I used to work in Rockefeller Center, an easy walk from the first Mangia's (and even easier to have them deliver). This book is very nice-looking. However, I was disappointed to find that it doesn't contain any of the recipes I've enjoyed at Mangia's over the years. I used to work in Rockefeller Center, an easy walk from the first Mangia's (and even easier to have them deliver). When I changed jobs, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I discovered the new Mangia's right across the street. So I have eaten there many, many times -- both takeout and in the upstairs restaurant with friends. I was therefore very disappointed not to find any of the recipes I was seeking, which I have enjoyed so much at Mangia's. I also hate the index; it is a royal pain to have to look at the sandwich chapter (or whatever) rather than being able to skim that heading in the index.

In short, this would undoubtedly be a phenomenal book if you don't have any expectations -- but was a disappointment for someone seeking favoite recipes, and unable to find them.

I could not wait for this cookbook to be published. It has some really super-delicious and unique recipes. Who wants to slave over a hot stove in the middle of summer? Personally, I seldom have time to cook meals that take considerable time to prepare. For this reason, I could not wait to try these salads and was not disappointed; the chicken salad with hazelnut sauce is devine. The soups are just as unique and especially tempting for those cool, rainy days when you just want light, warming fare to take away the chill. The breakfast dishes are also intriguing and for those who just want a casual morning breakfast/brunch or for those times when guests arrive for a visit, you are bound to find something special that would please almost anyone in this fabulous cookbook. There are all sorts of wonderful goodies here, and I cannot wait to try the pickled relish; it looks so yummy. The book is well laid out and organized in a manner that makes everything easy to find - also a plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite cookbook!, April 20, 2004
This review is from: Mangia: Soups-Salads-Sandwiches-Entrees-Baked Goods from the Renowned New York City Specialty Shop (Hardcover)
"Mangia" was a whim purchase, but now an indispensible tool in my kitchen. I particularly love the soup recipes--black bean, with homemade salsa and white bean and proscuitto are my favorites. The combination of flavors always hit the spot!
