The Key West Authors Coop was founded by six writers in 1995. In KWACs seven years, more than two dozen writers have been associated with it. Each of the books is focused on Key West or the Keys. KWAC is a loosely organized group that has birthed three books out of a love of the craft of writing, a sense of community and much hard work by a few individuals.
Mango Summers promises to be the best book yet out of KWAC, commented Theresa Foley, one of the writers and the book project manager. There are funny stories, sad stories and moving stories. Some of my favorites are the ones that recall the wild days of the 1960s from Bob Mayo and Allen Meece. The stories from Rosalind Brackenbury and Margit Bisztray are poetic and lovely. And there are a few disturbing pieces. Death, whether its a person or a whale, as in Barb Bowers piece, seems to enter into more of the tales than in previous books.
Author Annie Dillard, a famous Key West resident and writer, commented on Mango Summers: Key West has always lured writers to the dead-end of the Florida Keys chain. This collection of short stories is a testament to the newest group who continues to find creativity and inspiration among the islands back streets and alleys, moldy barrooms and marinas. Its a mix of romance and danger; it covers more emotional territory than a Florida panther in search of its next meal.
Mango Summers will be available in outlets in the Florida Keys and on Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com in January. KWAC will make the book available separately or in a set of three with the other two KWAC short story collections, Beyond Paradise and Once Upon an Island. Mango Summers is $9.95 retail and discounts are available for large orders.

For Those Who Have Fallen in Love with Key West,
By
This review is from: Mango Summers (Paperback)
For those who love Key West, this book will confirm that affection. It will also offer insight into what it's like for those who arrive, fall in love with Key West, and decide to stay. The twenty delicious stories include one called "Leaf Woman," by Margit Bisztray, a revealing oblique peep into the interior life of a woman who typifies one of the many young people who swarm to Key West to find the only work available is low-end drone jobs. The cover with the Key West row house with the rooster perched on the railing of the porch is quintessential Key West.

I have read this book , and once again the authors from key west have brought me back to the Island that I long to call home. Especially Bruce Weiss's piece " Chicken Wars " was fabulous In my opinion Bruce is one of the best new authors of our time , and I can't wait to see what his next novel to read. Also David Kauflet piece was also excellent. Once again proving that he still has a great depth of talent to pull from. Definitely a book worth reading.

The third and latest short-story collection by a diverse and dedicated group of Key West resident-writers continues to keep a finger on the pulse of this tiny, delightfully deranged island. Their latest offering is whimsical, entertaining and right on target.
