5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect from start to finish, May 14, 2011
This review is from: Mangoré (MP3 Download)
On a whim more or less, I picked this music up (as a CD!) in the airport in Costa Rica. And what a find. The music was written for guitar by the great Paraguayan composer Agustín Barrios, but has been reworked here by the transcriber/performer Manuel Obregón. And really, it's more than a plain transcription, it's been quite reworked so that it sounds as if born to be piano music. As such, the music is mostly faithful to the guitar original, but sometimes departs, but either way there is no denying that this just works, and makes for an album that just sounds perfect.

The album bears up to repeated listening, and picking a favourite track is impossible. In mood, it varies from subdued to dance-like to some percussion-like passages: Barrios's music is quite varied and worth exploring.

Great to see that this is available for download; highly recommended!
