A nice stand,

The "desk" is wide enough to hold 4 8-1/2" x 11" sheets with about a 3/4" overlap, or with no overlap and only an inch or so extending past the edges of the stand. The desk is also a couple of inches taller than an ordinary stand. If you examine the photo carefully you can see that the stand has a double lip. However, these shelves aren't quite as deep as on the standard Manhasset stand - the upper is about 1-1/2" and the lower is about 1-3/4". There is also a sort of "pocket" on the back side, about the size of a standard music stand and a couple of inches deep. However, it would be hard to reach from the front of the stand. (At sitting height you could stand up and bend over it, but at standing height you would have to grope blindly, or walk around the stand.) The double foot makes the stand very stable. The way the desk is mounted in front of the pocket means whatever you put on it has more leverage at the pivot, so a notebook or two will make the desk tilt toward you. You can fix this by tightening the bolts on the pivots slightly. (Careful - they squeeze a plastic sleeve that you don't want to crack.) You need an 11/16" wrench or (socket wrench) and a largish screwdriver to assemble the stand, and a couple of 1/2" wrenches/sockets if you need to tighten the pivots. Only the most rudimentary mechanical skills are needed. It's big... think in advance where you're going to put it.

Good Stand,

I ordered 2 of these stands for my jazz studio because I prefer the Manhasset brand to others. This is a good stand, but for a stand designed to hold multiple music items and scores I was surprised at it's ability to handle the weight. The stand cannot hold the weight of a 2" binder that contains 40 pages and starts to droop. I either have to remove pages or deal with pulling the stand up repeatedly.

I researched a LOT of different stands before I chose this one. I am very happy that I chose this stand. I lead the choir at our church and a standard sized stand was just not big enough for what I needed. At first, when I took the stand out of the box, I was afraid I had made a huge mistake. I say huge because the stand LOOKED huge! But once I assembled it and put it in the church, it was perfect! I also love the fact that it has two legs instead of one. So far I have had no problems with it getting off balance. All in all, I love it!
