I honestly believe that these books will be of more use than a class that cost 1000+.

As for the verbal, manhattan GRE is very helpful in reading comprehension.

I only purchased the verbal sections of the series from a bookstore nearby, in my opinion:

a. The text completion and sentence equivalence section really helped me improve my scores. The end of the book has Idioms, root lists and 1000 essential & 1000 advanced words list with illustrated usage in sentences in a catchy way like " "Cramming" vocabulary words probably won't be very efective, but studying a little every day will redound to your success", thus making the contextual use of some obscure words easier. the words they claim are the same as their flashcards, but I heard the cards also have related words, which definitely helps to remember certain words. Eg. Disingenuous = insincere, and related words are 'dissembling' and 'prevaricating'.

b.Although reading comprehension section has a lot of tips, they are good only if you can practice a lot. The practice problems on the verbal section are tougher than the ones on GRE. Definitely helpful.

c.For essay & argument writing, the Manhattan GRE gives a good explanation on how to build your arguments. Writing using the issue topic pool on the ETS website or discussing with a friend or someone in your family by picking up certain topics you are not comfortable with definitely helps . There is a compilation of some quotes by great leaders and other prominent people.
For the quantitative section I used the math review that is available for free download on the ETS website, The concepts are very well explained.

The free online practice tests definitely helped me, although I read another reviewer said it didn't; I guess it depends on each person and their individual strengths & weaknesses. I took the GRE yesterday and the online tests were equally tough as the new gre.

If you're like me and never seemed to understand math when you were younger, got through college somehow without having to take math (except statistics) but still have to take the GRE these books are for you. Seriously, I love these books so much they've eased some of my anxiety about test taking. The set is definitely large but if you're committed to really studying, the books are very clear and have plenty of practice questions. There are lots of tricks one can use to save time on test day. I'm giving myself about 5 months to prepare because I've never done well on standardized tests. I'm on month two of these books and got through two of them completely so far. You can jump around, they're not really in order.
Also, the vocabulary flash cards ( there are two sets and you have to buy separately) are great too really concise.I'm not a book learner usually, but I don't think I'll be needing a tutor as originally planned because these books are that easy to understand. It's annoying to spend over $100 on prep materials on top of the test, but I've looked at other books and feel that Manhattan are the best.

I got the GRE revised Manhatten review set because it came with free practice tests online. However, I took the GRE and it was painfully apparent that the actual GRE test was much harder than the review tests that Manhatten had online, so be aware of that!!! Also, the real GRE test had statistics questions on it and the manhatten GRE book series does not include statistics practice (I was EXTREMELY mad about this). The books are also riddled with type-os, not such a big deal for you getting a good score, but just sloppy quality. If you get these books, then make absolutely sure you check out the ETS book so you don't miss anything.

The manhattan study guides offer a good refresher to those who haven't engaged in much mathematics since graduating from college. I would recommend those interested in completing this series give themselves at least six months. Any thing short of this is difficult.

I tried using other books to study for the GRE, but these books gave the most indepth explanantions for different problem types. I also love that they not only go through the different math information, but also give you tips on how to solve problems like the quantitative comparison questions. There are tips given that help you save time and you definitely need the time on the GRE! There are drill sets and problem sets so you can gain practice through many questions. There are also example questions that the books work through step by step explaining them. If you are looking for books that clearly explain the information and make it easy to understand, these would be a good choice! There are also 6 practice tests you can gain access to online, but make sure that the book is either sold by amazon or that there is a code in the book to gain access. If not, just buy the set and then buy one additional book from amazon and you will have access. You can also use the calculator that you will have on the GRE which is good so that you can practice using that rather than a handheld one.

If you want to hit that top percentile, this tool is right for you. However, you do need certain determination to finish these books. I have tried many GRE practice books and they are by far the best I have tried. I will totally recommend this to those who wants to pick back up their math skills. However, this book is as friendly for those who has limited math background. :) As for the verbal, manhattan GRE is very helpful in reading comprehension. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.
