2.0 out of 5 stars boring percussion and empty riffs
After reading the five-star reviews I bought this nonsense CD, an absolute bore, except for the hypnotic, great track "Brooklyn Heights". Now that's a groovin' track. All the rest here are mindless, monotonous pieces pumping away in a most annoying way. But "Brooklyn Heights" is outstanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a Kind Music!!!!!!!!!!!!, March 23, 1999
By A Customer
I just purchased Done to the Bone's Cd yesterday based on the reviews. The first selection "Staten Island Groove" is one of the best acid jazz tunes ever. Also the popular "Brooklyn Heights" is still outstanding. This CD is unlike most because every single song is great...and will keep you grooving without letting you down. Another great song is "17 mile drive", with it's incredible introduction. With sixty-four minutes of music well worth the price. One word of caution this Cd shakes the whole house from top to bottom, even on low volume everything seems to vibrate. THIS IS A GREAT DANCE PARTY CD!!! Enough said-A ++

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely GREAT!!!!, December 7, 2001
By

After hearing it on the radio, I originally bought this cd for the song "Brooklyn Heights", which is as good as I expected. I also have grown quite fond of "Staten Island Groove" but, "17 Mile Drive" has ABSOLUTELY become my most favorite. I listen to this cd continuously at work! I know some comments have been made about length of the songs but when sitting at your desk in front of a computer it goes by rather quickly. "On The Corner Of Darcy Street" is also another good one. Most of these songs have some really nice jazz beat to it like "Carlito's Way". I'll be, looks like I like the whole cd, I guess you better get a copy for yourself, you won't be sorry because this music grows on you really quick!

4.0 out of 5 stars after hearing one of the songs, had to have the CD, November 8, 1999
By A Customer
First heard 'Brooklyn Heights" being played over the sound system prior to an outdoor concert. Heard it again over our 'soft jazz' station and knew I had to get this recording. Great beat to exercise to. Wish I had a longer drive to work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jazzy Dance Music, March 22, 2002

Oh yes! This is the one! Love this CD. Groovy, soulful, bassy, jazzy, uptempo, and very fresh. Hot tunes for the dance floor and a non stop rhythem. Cruising on an interstate with this CD can be a joy as the music flows and flows. Staten Island Groove and Brooklyn Heights seem to be everyones favorite fare. I, on the otherhand, was captivated by Carlito's Way. I first heard this song on, of all places, the Weather Channel. I recommend this CD to anyone that enjoys uptempo jazz. I am surprised how these guys could ever be an opening act for someone else. Oh well, I guess everyone has to start some where. Those are my thoughts and thanks for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars a true gem, February 18, 1999
By A Customer
this album is nasty! i am not only a huge fan of acid jazz, i am a tough as hell critic and very fussy about what i listen to. i am also a serious jazz pianist. i have heard this cd straight through at least 300 times and it is one of my top five favorite out of the 450+ cd's that i own. brooklyn heights is one of the best tunes i've ever heard. it is simple, yet cutting edge as are all of the cuts on this album. you CANNOT call yourself a fan of acid jazz unless you own this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight up grooving from the first to the last cut!!!!!, October 28, 1999
By A Customer
Five stars just isn't enough for these boys!!! The music "straight up 'jams' from cut one to the end. Up beat, every artist on this cd holds his own. The Stanten Island Groove is #1, sorta', but the entire cd is #1 for me. I loved it so much that I went out & bought 'Urban Grooves'. That cut is just as impressive. I'll be buying everything they have out from now on. But would love to chat with these guys & want to know where they do their concerts, will it be in North Carolina any time soon? Hope so, if so, count me in! I just can't say enough, but they sure surprised me. I am their fan club now! I play the cd all the time, so much that other people hear it in my car & want to purchase it right away! I tell them "they can't go wrong with this", it's an all occasion sound from the UK. Would like to know more about the artist though!

5.0 out of 5 stars This jazz will keep you jumpin', October 28, 2001
I'd been listening to their tunes for 4 years on the radio and came to realize that their music always (without fail) made me happy! "Brooklyn Heights" is a particular favorite.

If you like modern, funky, upbeat jazz, this is a must-have album. These guys a true musicians - precise, quick and infinitely clever. I hope to see them get more credit in coming years.

After hearing "Brooklyn Heights" for the first time on the radio I knew I was hooked. The entire CD is constant groove and funk, with a slight throwback to the 70's feeling. I pop it in the car for an upbeat, continuous ride to work. You can also sit at home and listen to the sounds of the 'city' come through your headphones. You don't have to be a diehard jazz fan to enjoy this CD. You just have to love a driving beat that will keep you moving.
