The Running Man...hunt,

Manhunt possibly the most dark and violent game yet...very easily..here's the deal you're James Earl Cash an ex Deathrow convict re-awakened after a false execution of sorts by the mysterious DIRECTOR "Starkweather".....you awaken in your cell to the voice of the director telling you your not dead and you thus enter his sick game of HIDE AND SEEK...you start off in an alley way somewhat beaten up and barely concious to what's going on taking orders from the DIRECTOR through an earpiece you found in the cell....thus the killing begins...you're being stalked by guys called "HUNTERS" usally gang members, twisted psychos with masks, cops, ex-military personell, and swat members...all of which have their own trademark style of hunting and intelligence in which they stalk you....as James Earl Cash you must rely heavily on stealth to make it through this game...taking to the shadows and leaping out whenever you feel the time is right...but be careful not to make too much noise or you're alert the hunters to your presence and it's pretty much run or be made into hamburger.....there's about 20 levels in this game....each level get's harder up until the last few where the game gets downright insane.....and lastly pitting you up with a deranged pigman named Piggsy who will tear you apart in seconds if you don't aproach him right...Manhunt is a fun and challenging game another Rockstar hit or miss...may be too graphic for some...but for those who can stomach bloodlet...your stupid to miss out on this sickly likeness to the Schwarzegger movie "The Running Man"....pick this up if you like any of Rockstar's previous games..it's not GTA..but it works. :) Oh and get the headset for this game it makes the whole experience that much better being able to yell at the Hunters instead of beating on things to draw their attention.....good game..get it.

Manhunt is one of the best games I have played since the original Resident Evil game on PS1. I am sure this game tops the list of every Parental Watchdog groups list of games to be avoided. It is ultra-violent with no redeeming social value of any kind, has absolutely no educational value, in short Manhunt is everything that I love about video games. I wanted to wait until I finished the game before reviewing it, as it's easy to tell that some of the reviews below are from folks who played a couple levels and then gave up. Sure, the gameplay may be a little repetitive, and if you want a fast paced, shoot-em' up, Manhunt may not be the game for you. But if you are up for being outgunned, out numbered, being hunted and stalked by a wide variety of sickos through multiple creepy levels, if you like the idea of creeping around, slicing and slashing your way through deserted ubran areas that are designed to give you nightmares, then Manhunt is the game for you. Sure, there may be some flaws to the game here and there, and you obviously have to suspend belief while playing, but this is one fun game that should give you hours of entertainment.

Simply put, if you are disturbed by high levels of violence, crude humor and severe adult dialogue, don't bother picking this one up.
Behind it all lies an intense game filled with edge-of-your-seat thrills and action. Action in a stealth game? Yeah, believe it or not. Because of how careful you must be to not alert your foes, this may be one of the scariest games ever. While Splinter Cell is more sophisticated, this is pure urban madness. To stalk the city with all eyes looking for you is unnerving. To stand in the shadows as a dubious fellow walks by only a couple feet away sets all nerves a' blaze. Some levels may take quite a long time to finish simply because you must...MUST...figure out the best way to eliminate (or possibly avoid) your enemies. Otherwise, you will wind up dead as a result of a stampede of racist thugs, lunatic weirdos or grizzled militants beating you to a pulp. The language, imagery and the chill you get from the director speaking in your ear only adds to this marvelous trek into the human psyche. Enjoy yourself as you kill...or be killed.

This game starts off slow... but it gets amazing fast. The camera is very user friendly and the control is near perfect (the only thing missing is the ability to make Cash (the anti-hero) crouch). I'll warn you though... the early levels are repetitive: it does (believe it or not) get somewhat tiresome sneaking around executing people. But with each level comes a new environment, new weapons, and new foes. The enemies also get progressively smarter to the point in fact that they use squad based tactics to track you, trap you and storm you. It turns into a very difficult game. In the first few levels you fight ruthless gangs with melee weapons such as bats, knives, glass shards, wires, and sickles. Near the end of the game you'll find yourself at odds with the cops and SWAT teams in all out gun blazing atmospheres with handguns, sniper rifles, shotguns, assault rifles and uzis just to name a few (with tonnes of steath thrown into the mix). Think Max Payne/Dead to Rights meets Splinter Cell. You can surprise enemies by popping out from behind cover, have them targetted from the protection of the shadows, trap them by moving dead bodies to locations that they will come to check out (locations where you just may be waiting silently in the shadows), make noise to attract them... trust me, it gets very entertaining/challenging when you've got 10 members of a SWAT team tracking you and you've got nothing but a shotgun and your wits to off them all. You cannot outgun them... theres no slow motion dives here. In all honesty, if you begin blasting without any thought, you'll take down one or two enemies tops... depending on your luck, before they kill you. You've got to split them up... off them one at a time, but they stick together making this task extremely difficult. And remember.. guns make noise so you have to kill and move or you'll be tracked and shot. Enemies are fully aware of what they see and what they hear. This game will startle you at times and it does perfectly combine stealth, action gun play and horror. Be warned though: its not a run and gun... you have to be smart and use stealth and you have to keep moving through the shadows or the enemy will track you. This game takes patience and is difficult and very violent but play to the end and you'll agree that its one amazing game. Graphics: 9

There is a movement going on in the world of video gaming, those of us who absolutely cherish the 'Manhunt' title are doing whatever we can to convince Rockstar to make a sequel to this game!!! It's been out for a few years, and I know it was a hit when it first came out, so instead of wasting time with more dumb GTA titles, can we please get our sequel? There is numerous web-sites dedicated to this 'movement' , they talk about petitions, phone-calls, you name it, fans of this game are willing to do it. I believe one person went so far as to try and get to the head execs at Rockstar headquarters, but his message apparently fell on deaf ears.
Alot of fans feel the reason no sequel has been discussed is all the controversy that first appeared upon the games initial release. I have a hard time believing this, while I agree this game is sick and twisted and extremely violent, it's nothing we haven't seen before in any of the GTA or Resident Evil titles. If anyone takes this game to serious and causes any problems then blame the individual, not the game. Okay, enough preaching, let's chat about this amazing game. No game I've ever played kept me more entertained, excited, and shaking my head in disbelief then 'Manhunt'. While I agree it is a tad slow and deliberate, the patience and persistence you need to play this only adds to the enjoyment. It's nice to have a game when you can use stealth instead of mass-murdering, when you use patience and planning istead of running head-on into the crowd and start hacking everything in sight. I also liked the way the game gets much harder the farther you advance, at first the beginning levels are rather easy, but as you hit level after level (there are 20) the game gets more intense and much more violent. Another big plus is you can control the severity of the kill, you can make it quick and mildly painfull, or make it gruesome and gory. I have never been a huge fan of 'bosses' those games when you finish a level, but at the end there is some ultra-tough boss that takes an extreme amount of damage to destroy. With 'Manhunt' you don't get that, it's just gang member after gang member coming after you, all with different weapons that vary in inflicting damage on you. I have played and finished all the GTA games as well as the Resident Evil titles, and don't get me wrong, those are fun games (except Vice City, what a waste of time) but after playing 'Manhunt' and completing it some 15 times now, it amazed me how much those other games were lacking. For pure suspense, there is none better!!!!!! Brian Cox supplies the voice of Starkweather, the main man in control of the whole game. You talk about a perfect fit, his voice is chilling yet comical at times, forcefull through most of the game, then pathetic and begging at the end. Cox absolutely nailed this, and heres hoping that if we ever get a sequel, his voice will again be behind it. So while I'm not gung-ho with the petition, etc, etc. I figure the more I can make people aware of this sensational game, then the more apt they will be to play it and buy it, maybe that will get Rockstar's attention.

Manhunt is without a doubt one of the most disturbing games ever made, and judging by the scores given to its sequel, it still retains that throne. You spend a lot of your time killing enemies without being detected, and if you are detected you're in deep s***. The game has an incredibly creepy environment to do your hellish deeds and eliminate the enemy. The game can get incredibly difficult, especially when you're trying to fight more than one enemy which will in many cases cost you your life. You can lead enemies into traps by making noise by banging your weapon against a wall. Then, when the enemy comes and doesn't see you and walks away you can kill him in macabre ways(via suffocation with plastic bags or stab him with a piece of glass, which is made more brutal when you hold down the attack button). You will only be terrified throughout this game because you don't know what will come for you next and how will it try and kill you. The game has problems though. The camera is a bit squirrelly, especially when looking around, and controls are a bit of a chore at times. But if you enjoy getting the s*** scared at you by all means pick up this game immediately.

One Sick (and Fun), Scary Game,

I heard a lot of buzz about Manhunt and was thoroughly impressed with the graphic executions and realistic stealth techniques. This game is so viciously graphic that it is actually scary. The plot of the game is you play as James Earl Cash, a convict who is believed to have been executed by the state only to realize he was kidnapped by a snuff film producer. Now he, you, must survive in an abandoned city while gangs try to kill you, while the entire adventure is being filmed. The best part so far is the executions, which are seen through the lens of the camera. I haven't finished the game but it is definetly worth the fifty dollars. Finally, a realistic, graphic, and well-concieved horror stealth game for the Xbox.

Yes. That is my question whenever I think of this game. Did Rockstar North create a game where you spend hours at a time sneaking up on killers, thugs, Nazis, and Psychos and then executing them in the most horrific method imaginable? Then I look over to my video game shelve, at the X-Box Section, and there it is. "Manhunt", nestled in between "Halo 2" and "Mega Man Anniversery Collection." Yes, that's right. The Grand Theft Auto series is getting more attention than what is perhaps the most wonderfully depraved video game I have ever seen, perhaps ever made. How they got away with this, I don't know. Seriously. Can anyone tell me of a more sickening video game? E-mailme so I can further drive myself to madness.
What happens when you blow someone's head off with a shotgun or sniper rifle in GTA? Well, first off, their head straight up just dissapears. Then a healthy fountain of blood rockets out from their neck, Kill Bill style. When you empty a shell into the face of a Smiley or cap a cop from 100 yard away, something special happens. Speacial and horrific. You actually get to see the bits and pieces of brain and skull go flying off their shoulders and splatter, freakin' splatter, on the wall of ground behind them. Sometimes the tops of their heads remain and all that's left is a gaping, gooey hole in the middle of their faces. My favorite execution has the gruesome version of the plastic bag. It looks the most realistic. |
