Book Description

Manhunter's Mountain shows a powerful side to Cash Laramie as he makes his way down the side of a mountain with a prisoner in tow, and two prostitutes eager to flee a mining town that's gone bust, looking to make a new life for themselves. An early winter storm promises to make the journey more than a normal struggle. And, leaving town with two of its most precious gems, the prostitutes, puts Cash in the crosshairs of an angry gang of men who are willing to keep the women in town ... at any cost.

A fast, hardboiled Western that continues the Cash Laramie legend with swagger and good, solid writing. Wayne Dundee brings his masterful voice to the Western and tells a Cash Laramie story in perfect pitch. Manhunter's Mountain should be on every Western fiction reader's bookshelf.

-- Larry D. Sweazy, Spur Award-winning author of The Coyote Tracker.

Edward A. Grainger's outlaw marshal is on the trail again in this first full-length Cash Laramie novel written by hardboiled veteran Wayne D. Dundee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Western Adventure January 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
David Cranmer continues to allow other authors to contribute to the on-going saga of U.S. Marshals Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles, and he couldn't have made a better choice for MANHUNTER'S MOUNTAIN than Wayne D. Dundee, who has rapidly vaulted into the top ranks of current Western writers.

The manhunter of the title is Arapaho-raised, hardnosed lawman Cash Laramie, who arrives in the dying mining town of Silver Gulch on the trail of a fugitive. He finds and arrests his quarry in pretty short order, but as it turns out, that's not his main challenge. There are other manhunters, too, and Cash's big job will be getting out of the mountains in the middle of a winter storm with some murderous miners and a ruthless bounty hunter on his trail. The two soiled doves he's trying to get back to civilization at the same time will only complicate matters.

Dundee keeps the action moving along at a rapid pace, and as always, Cash Laramie is a compelling character, a testament to Cranmer's creation of him in the first place. The supporting characters are interesting as well, and the fact that not everything turns out exactly as you might expect is an added bonus. So are the excellent descriptions of the landscape and the way the mountains and the weather almost become characters in their own right.

MANHUNTER'S MOUNTAIN is a fast, very entertaining novel, and I'm sure fans of Cash Laramie and of Westerns in general will thoroughly enjoy it. I certainly did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent continuation to the series March 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have followed Cash and Miles from the start and quickly became a fan of David Cranmer's pithy and succinct stories in a fresh historical context that sounds very plausible. He takes a risk every time he invites another author to contribute, not least because the transition from short story characters to a full-size novel may require a different approach. Having said that, this one is a flawless continuation and provides for some entertaining and tense reading. Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cash Laramie Always Gets His Man April 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Marshal Laramie catches up to his criminal in a small mountain town. He wants to get Lobo Ames back to jail before being trapped in the mountains by snow in the small mining town of Silver Gulch. Two ladies who are the last remaining whores in town are out of work because the saloon is accidentally burned to the ground. Faye and Little Red want to leave with Marshal Laramie and his prisoner because the rough miners feel they belong to the town. The townsmen follow Cash, Ames, and the two women and are determined to take the women of pleasure back to their town. The rest of the story you will enjoy. The story is very well written and an excellent read.

More About the Author

Wayne Dundee grew up and spent the first fifty years of his life around the state line area of northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin. Always an avid reader,he decided at an early age that one day he wanted to be a writer himself. Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer influenced the direction his writing would initially take -- hardboiled detective mysteries.

Dundee sold his first short story, featuring Rockford, Illinois-based PI Joe Hannibal, in 1982. Since then there have been, to date, over twenty Hannibal short stories, three novellas, and seven Hannibal novels. The Hannibal books and stories have been published in several languages and nominated for an Edgar, an Anthony, and six Shamus Awards. The forthcoming novel, BLADE OF THE TIGER, and a short story collection, BODY COUNT - THE JOE HANNIBAL CASEFILE, VOLUME I, will help celebrate Hannibal's 30 years (so far) in print.
Dundee has recently also gained acclaim for his work in the Western genre. His 2010 short story "This Old Star" received the Peacemaker Award from the Western Fictioneers writers' organization. His debut Western novel, DISMAL RIVER, won the 2011 Peacemaker for Best First Western. RECKONING AT RAINROCK, the sequel to DISMAL RIVER, was released in June of 2012.

In 2009, Dundee retired as general manager for a small manufacturing facility and is now devoting full time to writing. Subsequent to the passing of his beloved wife Pam, Dundee shares a home in Ogallala, Nebraska, with his daughter and her family. He is working on further Joe Hannibal adventures as well as more work in the Western genre.
